One Million Moms vs. Black Jesus

If it weren't for One Million Moms and a few other Biblehump organizations throwing a mass hissyfit, most of us wouldn't have heard about the upcoming TV series Black Jesus. It sounds like it'll be hilarious.  Thanks, Biblewads; I owe you.

Black Jesus will be shown on the cable channel Adult Swim, which shares channel space with the Cartoon Network.  (I've never seen Adult Swim listed on the Guide Channel, but I know we get the Cartoon Network.)

The program is produced by Aaron McGruder, who created The Boondocks.  According to the One Million Moms website, Black Jesus “depicts Jesus living in Compton Gardens and makes a mockery of our Lord.”

So apparently Black Jesus would be acceptable if He were depicted living in white upscale Brentwood; they just don't want Him associating with those filthy minorities in Compton.

A One Million Moms spokesperson said:

“If we speak with one voice now, we can keep this program from ever seeing the light of day.”

Yup, that'll work.

If McGruder is going to be involved you know it will be a hoot! There is a big controversy over making Jesus any color but white. Polls show most Christians believe he was 6'2", Blond haired, Blue Eyed, with a beard - even when history and common sense shows the contrary, even those who admitted they knew better, want to stubbornly hold on to that image. So much that many black and Latino churches get criticized for “accuracy” should they display a Jesus of color. Years ago, Madonna (remember her?) Did a video called “Like a Prayer”, the Catholic Church thought it was blasphemy with the burning cross but many of us knew it was because she had a Black Jesus on the cross.

Where were these “Million Moms” when all these top conservatives and republicans showed up for prayer breakfasts and took money from Rev Moon, a Right Wing Korean Arms Dealer who had repeatedly called himself the resurrection of Jesus. So it’s OK that Jesus Christ can’t be black but he can be a Korean Arms Dealer? Of course he could, when he bought the Washington Times and Poured Millions into Right Wing causes!

Nothing promotes a program more than a protest against it. These people never learn. But then learning is not part of fundamental religion.

Erik: I don't remember if I ever saw the "Like a Prayer" video, but I remember the Catholic Church getting all hysterical over it. Good point about Sun Myung Moon. He's a perfect example of Christians' hypocrisy and double standards.

Jerry: These protests and mass tantrums are so common with "controversial" rock bands and TV shows, you have to wonder if these religious protesters are secretly trying to promote the thing they're ranting about.

So what upsets so called Christians the most about this show?
The fact that Jesus wasn't white or the fact that he was from and
supported the poor? The Truth Will Set Us Free!

Black Jesus.com: I'd guess both those things are equally upsetting to so called Christians. They can't handle the truth.
