Johnny Winter
Well fuck, we've lost another one. Johnny Winter has died at age 70.
His music was heavily influenced by the earlier blues titans — Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Bobby Bland, etc. — but he didn't sound like anybody else except Johnny Winter. The album I was most familiar with was Second Winter. Edgar Winter also played on a few tracks from that album.

I always admired how he didn't follow trends and stuck with blues oriented rock and roll.

Jim: I didn't find out about his death until yesterday when I saw his obit in our local paper. Turned out he had died two days earlier, on the 16th. I'm glad you also wrote about him at your site (on the 17th; you beat me to it). He definitely stayed true to the music he knew and loved.
Despite my lack of comments lately, I do still lurk here :-)
Johnny Winter - Wow. Such a loss. I saw him in San Antonio once upon a time in the late 80s. I am most fond of his work with Muddy Waters - Playing and producing.
Carlos: Glad you got a chance to see him in person. Too many great musicians have been dropping like flies.
