Climate Change Vigilance = National Security
Here's an excerpt from President Obama's Keynote Address at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Commencement:
“When you’re on deck, standing your watch, you stay vigilant. You plan for every contingency. And if you see storm clouds gathering, or dangerous shoals ahead, you don't sit back and do nothing. You take action — to protect your ship, to keep your crew safe. Anything less is negligence. It is a dereliction of duty. And so, too, with climate change. Denying it, or refusing to deal with it endangers our national security. It undermines the readiness of our forces.”
My sentiments exactly. Climate-change denial — the fossil fuel barons who are choreographing it and the millions of inbreds who keep dancing to it — is a dire threat to our national security.

It is interesting. The republican dialog on climate change is shifting away from total denial to a more nuanced position. They are beginning to accept climate change but are saying that it is unknown what affect human activity is having on climate change. This allows them to continue to block any efforts to reduce the human impact while moving away from the indefensible position that climate change does not exist.
They are able to serve their masters while not alienating their base.
Jerry: True, this change of semantics gives the Koch puppets a way to keep blocking all efforts to mitigate climate change. I guess they're hoping they won't alienate quite as many people if they soften their rhetoric with "we still don't know," "I'm not a scientist, Man," etc.
I was watching O'Reilly the other day and he was just scandalized that the president would talk about climate change when giving a speech to members of the Coast Guard. He's the definition of short sighted.
Jim: That's probably what millions of conservatives are thinking. When the POTUS speaks to a military academy, he should be talking about the newest shiniest weapons for blowing up swarthy enemies, instead of handwringing over that sissy environment.
