Those #!$%$!&% Tax-and-Spend Democrats are Coddling Veterans Again
Dick Cheney: “We have millions of working-class drones who are only good for one purpose — cannon fodder. Then they come back from the war and start sniveling about some sort of injury, or wanting an education or whatever. We don’t need them any more. They can go fuck themselves!”
Cheney’s cute little sockpuppet: “If these folks had anything to offer besides their lives, their daddies would have gotten them out of the service, like my daddy did for me. Thank you Daddy.”
OK, Bush-Cheney didn’t actually say those exact words. But that’s been their obvious sentiment ever since our cakewalk started in Iraq more than five years ago.
“Support Our Troops!” means not saying a F#$%! word against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sssshhhhhhh!!! You’ll demoralize our soldiers, and you’ll encourage The Enemy! You can’t possibly be against the war AND support the troops. As the popular soundbite goes: “That’s like saying you support your home team but you don’t want them to win any more games.” Oh, and you DO have a few yellow ribbon decals on your car, don’t you???
“Support Our Troops!” DOESN’T mean giving a flying fuck about our soldiers after they come home injured or disabled. And it sure as hell doesn’t mean caring about the families of soldiers who were killed in action. Will that sniveling Cindy Sheehan EVER stop bawling and blubbering? Get over it!
The “Support Our Troops!” rhetoric is sort of like the “pro-life” soundbites that fetus-worshippers are always spewing. After the baby is born, it’s no longer sacred. After a soldier comes home disabled, the warmongers suddenly forget all about their protective maternal “ssshhhhhh!! Our soldiers are over there fighting! Don’t distract them!” slogans. A returning soldier and an already-born baby are both devalued, like a new car that’s just been purchased and driven off the lot.
“Oh, you’re born. OK, run along now.” “Oh, you’re not over there fighting in the trenches any more. Well, whaddya want now?”
And now, taxpayer-financed college educations for soldiers? Who’s the Communist that came up with that idea???
Yesterday the Senate voted (as always) to give Bush the war funding that he demanded — $165 billion, enough to fund the war through next spring. But this bill also includes tens of billions of dollars for veterans’ benefits, including a much-improved GI Bill.
Dumbya — that great supporter of our troops that he is — has threatened to veto the bill if it contains extra money for veterans’ benefits. But the Senate passed the bill by a veto-proof majority, 75 to 22.
Not only did some previously invertebrate Democrats suddenly grow spines, but — better sit down for this — twenty-five Republican senators deserted Bush’s sinking ship and voted for the bill.
A Republican senator from Utah, Robert Bennett, said Bush “has no political capital left.”
It’s about time.
