Howard Zinn, J.D. Salinger: R.I.P.

Christ, this makes two great writers we’ve just lost.

J.D. Salinger was by far the better known of the two. His only book, “The Catcher in the Rye,” has sold more than 60 million copies since he wrote it in 1951.

Every movie you’ve ever seen about teenage anger, rebellion, nonconformity — was probably influenced by Salinger’s book.

Howard Zinn wrote “A People’s History of the United States.” This was not your father’s history textbook. This is an unabridged uncensored politically incorrect history of America — blemishes, warts, tumors and all.

Noam Chomsky said: “I can't think of anyone who had such a powerful and benign influence. His historical work changed the way millions of people saw the past.”
