More Trouble From South Dakota
Quick, call an exterminator. The South Dakota legislature has a major infestation of rightwingnuts. These malicious pests are doing what they do best: trying to make an end run around the will of the voters.
As you probably remember, last year the South Dakota legislature passed a law banning all abortions except when the mother’s life was in danger. By trying to turn the clock back to the Spanish Inquisition, the legislature begat this website. But the state’s voters redeemed themselves by signing a petition to have the anti-abortion law placed on the ballot. And the law was trounced by the voters last November.
And now the South Dakota legislature is back for another try. These Taliban wannabes are devoted followers of the Neurotic Creed: When you try something and it doesn’t work, keep trying the same thing over and over and over, and eventually you'll get the result you want.
The State Director of Planned Parenthood said “The people of this state told the government that they shouldn’t be involved in these intensely personal and very difficult private family issues.” She also pointed out that abortions would be reduced if these same lawmakers would support programs to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
Labels: abortion, South Dakota

tom, as i posted recently....
"We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission; which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history, the stage of rule by brute force." - Ayn Rand, The Nature of Government
remember when "conservative" meant limited government? now it means totalitarian government.
programs that prevent unwanted pregnancies?
why on earth would anyone support that?
geez, these moonbats.
Spaceneedl: Yeah, it's ironic how many conservatives quote from Ayn Rand and think of her as their mentor. Meanwhile they've done a big 180 and now they want that big intrusive government they always used to rail against. But their slogans haven't changed; they keep talking about individual freedom and limited government, even though they don't mean a word of it.
Mike: Yup, only Communists and devil-worshippers want to prevent unwanted pregnancies :)
I think South Dakota is infested with obsessive-compulsive puritans. I take Zoloft for my OCD, and it seems to help most of the time. Maybe if SD could medicate that handful of dorks that keeps pushing their fecal views on the state's voters, we wouldn't keep seeing their hyperdrive neurotic behavior. "Better living through chemistry," I like to say. And I do believe that quote originated during a Republican administration (Eisenhower's?)
Spaceneedl is right on about how the meaning of "conservative" has changed. Seeing how they have done an awfully nice job of changing the meaning of "liberal" over the years, maybe we lefties need to start some kind of campaign to promote views such as those of Spaceneedl, who phrased it just about perfectly. Remember, like Karl Rove does, always attack the opponent at his area of strength... or in this case with the GOP, an area where they THINK they have strength.
"Against Abortion - Don't Have One"
If only those who feign outrage over abortion cause they care so much about human beings (Christian Values and all) would apply some of that compassion to the poor, sick, infirmed, needy, Iraqis, U.S. Soldiers, and stop judging those like homosexuals (Like Cheney's Daughter) lest the be judged themselves.
Snave: Yeah, I sure wish those neurotic puritans would find some other way to relieve their problems than trying to force their beliefs on everyone else.
Political definitions sure have changed. They’ve managed to turn “liberal” into a swearword, and somehow “conservative” is still synonymous with “limited government” even though the real meaning is a Big Brother government that spies on its citizens and a “president” who invades other countries with no valid reason. Liberals and independents definitely need to start communicating better.
PoliShifter: Yes, it would be nice if these “right to life” people actually cared about people after they’ve been born. A fetus is sacred, but once it’s born it can go ahead and get sick and die or get sent to war and become cannon fodder.
I'm sorry, I have really strong feelings about this sorta nonsense. It's a male-dominated society, and the "deciders" are all rich old white men telling girls what to do after some guy has had his way with her.
By the way, I'm white, and a man, I'm just not rich...
Kurt: Like you, I'm white and male (and old) but not rich. Yes we need a more diverse group of "deciders" who'll be less likely to barge into people's private lives.
Yeah, OCDSD is one terrible disease.
J. Marquis: "OCDSD" LOL.
I like your politeness there!! I, on the other hand, was not very polite when addressing this topic on my blog.
I just came across your site, and thought I'd say hello!!
ParislOve2: Thanks for stopping by. You've got some great rants at your site. Keep it up; we've got our work cut out for us.
