Michael Moore: He's Baaack!
It’s time for the Far Right to start foaming at the mouth again. Michael Moore is coming out with another blockbuster this summer. The Right still hasn’t forgiven him for Fahrenheit 911 and Bowling For Columbine. Now they’ll have to gear up for another mass hissyfit.
Most wingnuts probably aren’t aware of this (or didn’t grasp it), but in Bowling For Columbine, Moore concludes that guns are NOT the root of America’s crime and violence. He decides this after interviewing some Canadians and finding out that Canada has about the same number of guns, per capita, as the U.S. So Michael Moore has pretty much the same stance on guns as the rightwads who hate him. How’s that for irony?
His newest movie — coming out this summer — is called Sicko. It'll be a dark comedy (what else?) about America’s ailing health care system. The film will have a segment about some 9/11 rescue workers who had to go to Cuba to get medical treatments that weren’t available in America. Damn those Commies!
It’s hard to tell which will be funnier — the movie itself or the hysterical splutterings of all the rightwing pundits and bloggers who will be ordered to vilify the movie.

Oh, I can't wait!! I'm sure that they'll be demanding that Moore hand over the names of those 9/11 workers who sought treatment in Cuba. After all, it's illegal to go there. I'll never get that one for the life of me. Nevertheless, I can just picture them doing that. As if breathing in toxic chemicals and whatnot isn't enough of a punishment, I'm sure they'll be demanding prison time too.
ParisLOve2: Yup, the nerve of those whiny rescue workers, going to a forbidden country just because of some petty thing like chemical poisoning.
Our conservative population will cut his new film to pieces... what do he mean our health system is less than Cuba's.
Why we have the best doctors in the world, everyone comes here for training and treatment.
I can see it coming... why are these folks so uninformed?
Why cant they accept the truth?
Let's Talk: Yeah, it really pushes buttons with conservatives that Cuba has better health coverage than America. (Higher literacy rate too.) I'm not saying their medical care itself is better, but their coverage is universal, compared to our 45 million uninsured citizens.
Maybe we could learn something from them instead of boycotting them for 40 years.
The wingnuts can't stand on the merits of their own arguments. To survive as a political force in this country, they are compelled to demonize the "other guy."
It's a sad, and telling, indictment of their philosophy. But anyone who ever opened up a history book knows the truth about how well 'con societies work.
Jolly Roger: Yup, character assassination is all the wingnuts are capable of. Ever since "Willie Horton" (Bush 41's presidential campaign in 1988), the personal attack has been the Republicans' M.O.
I'm going to the movies for this one, can't wait.I was born in the "Great Mitten State" so Michael Moore is a Michigan Boy Hero to me! Let's hear it for the working people and the truth!
Kitchen Window Woman: Yeah, I'm looking forward to the movie, and the Right's reaction to it. He makes documentaries that are actually funny and interesting, and not many people are able to do that.
While I may have to go to Portland or Seattle to see "Sicko" I will certainly go see it when I am in one of those two cities this summer.
Because of "Bowling for Columbine" and "Fahrenheit 9/11" the conservative shouters will never forgive Michael Moore, and they will always just dismiss him as a "fat guy" or use similar ad hominums/name-calling against him. If Moore was to undergo a drastic political transformation and go over to the Dark Side (like Dennis Miller did) they would still hate him. They hate him the same way they hate Hillary Clinton, and in the same way lots of lefties hate Karl the Kingmaker.
I hope Moore's next movie is a box office smash, and that he wins Academy Awards for it.
Snave: I'm looking forward to the movie too. I've only seen Roger and Me, Bowling for Columbine and snippets from Fahrenheit 911. I just find his movies enjoyable; it's nice to be informed and entertained at the same time. And it's amusing how the Right turns on him with such fury.
You're right, they'll always hate him no matter what he does. The fact that he's a lifelong NRA member (as he says in Bowling for Columbine) doesn't seem to mitigate their hatred for him.
I've been looking forward to this!
When I went to the last one he made, people were cheering at the end of the showing. I suspect that will happen again, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him at the Oscars.
I'll be particularly interested in the healthcare for mental illness issue. Most insurance companies only cover 50% of costs, compared to 80% for physical illnesses, refusing to acknowledge that the two are intertwined. (Why would medications for certain mental illnesses work, if they were not intertwined?) They also have a lower cap for mental illness.
Of course, the continued stigma of mental illness doesn't help matters, either.
FINALLY! I had been wondering where Michael had been...actually, he's been a bit too quiet for my taste lately. Raise some hell, Mr. Moore!!!
Candace: Yeah, this movie should be enjoyable. Health coverage, including mental illness, should be a good vehicle for Moore's combination of journalism and humor.
I remember the buttons that got pushed in Jack Nicholson's movie "As Good As It Gets." I saw it on a video, but I heard that in theaters the audiences went crazy when Helen Hunt said "those fuckin' HMO bastards pieces of shit." Moore's new movie ought to have some memorable lines too.
Ariadnek: Yup, he's been a little quiet. Glad to hear he'll be back with a vengeance.
Aside from Moore selling out all of his ideals to support the Democratic Party, his movies really inevoke a class consciousness that I really connect with -- don't forget 'Roger and Me.'
Should be good to watch and even better to watch the Right make themselves look like fools by going nuts in trying to discredit him.
I first heard he was making this film a couple years ago. I'm so glad it's finally coming out.
Michael Moore is my favorite documentary filmmaker, bar none.
Benjamin: Yeah, I liked Roger and Me. His new movie might have more class issues than his more recent ones. Health coverage is right at the center of the whole "haves vs. have-nots" issue. And like you say, the funniest part will be watching the wingnuts fuming and pulling their hair out.
Lizzy: Yeah, mine too. Mostly because I can't get into most documentaries because they're too dry and academic. Moore just has this gonzo in-your-face style that makes you laugh and listen at the same time.
It’s hard to tell which will be funnier — the movie itself or the hysterical splutterings of all the rightwing pundits and bloggers who will be ordered to vilify the movie.
Quite predictably, the latter.
All I have to say is how soon can I get my ticket? LOL..............
Anything that pisses off the right gives me joy! He needs to make a movie about Dictatorship. Check out what Fayke Bailey Hutchison sent me. I posted it on my blog!
I always used to wonder what the big deal was with the right wing and the gun nuts when it came to Bowling for Columbine.
It's not an anti-gun movie at all.
The people that made the biggest stink about it seemed to me were ones that had never seen it.
They didn't even know what it was about.
Looking forward to this one as well.
I do enjoy his sense of humor.
Prague Twin: I agree, the latter.
Funkytown Fighter: Yup, I’m looking forward to it too. Interesting letter you got from Hutchinson; she certainly is perceptive and attuned to her constituents. She probably has several form letters all ready to go; the keyword “Iraq” probably triggered her standard response. These people are too busy with lobbyists and campaign donors. They don’t have time for anybody else.
Mike: I think that was exactly it. The people who bashed Bowling For Columbine probably never saw the movie. They just assumed they'd hate it because it was from Michael Moore.
The WARRIOR WIMPS are pretty brave when they hide behind a white sheet and a pillow case with two holes on it so they can see their hapless victim that they are about to hang from a tree!
The right wing fascist conservative republicans have always had a mob mentality!
They are always brave as hell when they are in a large group facing the enemy of one lone individual.
The reality is that they are like freightened little children, that only feel safe and manly when they are carrying a gun, in a mob, or bullying someone, that is much smaller and weaker than they are!
These so called warriors are always willing to go to war as long as they personally are exempt from being in harms way!
The Republican warrior wimps are motivated by fear of anything and everything that is foreign and different from what they are!
The United Nations consists of a bunch of foreigners so they can’t be trusted, according to these right wing warrior wimps!
Look out you gay faggots the warrior wimps will make your life misserable!
All you foreigners who don’t look and speak like the members of the master race, …will be sent back to where you came from!
The Warrior Wimps will keep America pure by establishing in America, an oppressive police state so that all these Warrior Wimps can feel safe!
I think that all of them should be institutionalized before they hurt someone!
Michael Moore is my hero!
As long as he makes the right wing crazy, ..that is crazier than they already are, than I am all for Michael Moore!
To be progressive within the class struggle, timing is everything!
Otherwise you are whistling in the dark!
