Supreme Court Ruling Steals Thunder from GOP’s “Contempt of Congress” Circus

Republicans had this whole thing staged and choreographed right down to the minutest detail.  The Supreme Court would overturn Obamacare, and on the same day, House Republicans would vote to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in Contempt of Congress.  They’d deliver a one-two punch to that Kenyan Muslim who’s struggling to get re-elected.

Republicans have to rely on these orchestrated theatrical stunts, since they have absolutely no credible ideas to run on, and their presidential candidate is a robot who only talks in Vague-Speak.

And then the Supreme Court dropped the ball by upholding the Affordable Care Act, and this decision is totally dominating the news.  The Contempt of Congress vote — the other half of the GOP’s one-two punch — is just a teensy little voice getting drowned out by screaming bullhorns and loudspeakers.

The Supreme Court has upheld President Obama’s Affordable Care Act.

Chief Justice Roberts joins liberals to uphold law.  Jaw-dropping switch saves Obamacare.

Congressional Republicans are still planning to go ahead with their vote on whether or not to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in Contempt of Congress.  John Boehner said…

Will the Supreme Court ruling help President Obama’s re-election?  How will GOP candidates deal with this stunning defeat?

Congress has voted.  Attorney General Eric Holder is now the first sitting cabinet officer to be held in Contempt of Congress.  The House vote was 255 to 67.  255 congressional prostitutes got down on their knees and sucked off the NRA, one of the main backers of this vote.  108 Democrats walked out on the proceedings in order to protest the whole charade...

It's Kuboki theater Tom. How else can they justify their paychecks?
I just wonder how Raw Money is going to try and spin this one since it was his plan this was patterned after.

Break out your popcorn Tom it should be interesting.

it's only kabuki theater when it's against the dems. But when they went after the phony leak of that desk jockey Valerie Plame now that was serious business.

I have an idea Arizona should tell the president they are going to help them enforce the new penalties for the health care bill by making sure all the "immigrants" pay in. Lets' see how fast he sues them by saying that's unconstitutional.

I think what the GOP was hoping for was a double-whammy. They would see Affordable Health Care defeated, and then they would nail Holder, which would send Obama reeling and start the process of sweeping their sad sack candidate into the White House.

Well, we are seeing how well that's working. The Supreme Court upheld Affordable Health Care, and the Justice Department isn't going to pursue a case against Holder.

They didn't get their double-whammy and they won't now. So what's next?

They are running out of "big gun" opportunities. Take the unemployment rate, for example. It isn't going to play all that well as an issue in Virginia, where it's only 5.6%, or maybe in Ohio where it's 7.3% or Pennsylvania where it's 7.4%... all are below the national average. Maybe it would be a legit issue in Florida, but in most swing states it shouldn't be a factor. And with other economic indicators showing that even though the economy is stagnant it isn't reversing course and is in fact slowly moving ahead, Mitt may need a healthy dose of luck when trying to use the economy as an issue.

So with that issue being neutered somewhat for Romney, and without the double-whammy, now we'll probably get lots of attempts at dirty tricks from people like Karl Rove and Jerome Corsi. Whatever it takes to distract voters, keep them from the polls, and get them going on false memes.

Hey, it's ALL kabuki theater.

And it's always going to be "unconstitutional" for whoever disagrees with whatever it is that's happening.

I'll leave the "constitutional" part to those who know about legal issues and who can legally interpret the Constitution. I could be off base, but it seems to me Roberts' willingness to side with the lefties on the Court this time suggests the Court is doing it's own thing more than it's succumbing to outside pressures.

And because people like Lisa will say "Well, you weren't saying that when they made the Citizens United ruling!" I'll say sure, I wasn't saying that then, because I hated the ruling and still do. But now I can say with greater confidence that the Court isn't always guaranteed to vote one way or another on a contentious matter. And because they know way more about such things than I do, I'm willing to accept their Citizens United decision since it was made from their authority, at least as a ruling I can do nothing about.

I doubt very many of my conservative friends will view the Affordable Health Care ruling in a similar manner, but I challenge them to do so.

@Lisa, except the Valerie Plame leak wasn't fake. It was a crime, it was retribution against her husband, and very high ranking Bush administration officials got away with it.

Demeur: I guess all they can do is come up with one Kabuki Theater stunt after another, since they're totally bankrupt of constructive ideas.

Snave: That's right, they wanted a double whammy and they barely got a single one. I loved reading that the Justice Dept. won't be pursuing the case against Holder, after the House wasted all that time on their "contempt of Congress" charade.

MC: Good point about Valerie Plame. She was most certainly not a desk jockey, but that was the conservatives' talking point for years and they refuse to let go of it.

Unfortunately, arguing with Lisa is like arguing with a wall.

a person is not covert if they were not overseas for 5 years and Plame had not been overseas in over 5 years Joe Wilson admitted that Saddam was trying to obtain uranium form Niger. Whether or not it was true he did indeed say it . I heard it myself on the Galloway show. But what do I know I'm just a right wing whacko.
But I think her name was said in passing not on purpose in retaliation against Joe Wilson but unlike the leaks from the White House recently to make Obama look good. Yep its' always about him .
Of course you will never be able to find proof just like you will never be able to see the video of Obama at the PLO party he attended in California for his Buddy Khalidi.
We might have seen all the "jew hate' talk. But you guys love that right?

You're entitled to your regurgitated talking points about Valerie Plame. Whatever. Like they say, the only score that counts is the final score, which is: Valerie Plame 1, Robert Novak 0.
