Online Petition: Charge Government Shutdown Ringleaders with Sedition
YES!!!
MoveOn.org is circulating a petition calling for the arrest — and prosecution on charges of sedition — of the ringleaders of the government shutdown. The petition states:
“I call on the Justice Department of the United States of America to arrest Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Speaker of the House John Boehner, and other decision-making House Republican leaders for the crime of seditious conspiracy against the United States of America…The House GOP leadership’s use of the Hastert Rule and H. Res 368 to shut down the government and threaten the U.S. economy with default is an attempt to extort the United States government into altering or abolishing the Affordable Care Act, and thus, is self-evidently a seditious conspiracy. Arrest the perpetrators in Congress immediately and bring them to justice.”
This may seem farfetched, but the sedition law has been used in other recent cases. In 2005 a nurse was charged with sedition — and acquitted — when she wrote a letter to a local newspaper criticizing the Bush Administration for the Iraqi war and for the Administration’s slow “response” to Hurricane Katrina.
Anyway, here is the petition.

Everyone in America who can still think should sign this petition. These traitors need to be punished for their actions. I'm so proud of President Obama for standing firm and showing real leadership in the face of this treasonous act.
Thanks, Tom!
Ah now why didn't I think of this first? Sadly the only problem is Eric Holder won't go after them. You saw how well he has prosecuted the Banksters.
An idea whose time has come. Of course it will never happen, but one can dream.
I haven't been posting much the last few months, but this baby is getting posted on my blog today! Thanks for passing it on, Tom.
SM: I'm proud of Obama too, for standing firm and not bending over for the teahadists. And now the teahad needs to be penalized for its attempted coup.
Demeur: Nah, Holder won't prosecute them. This petition may be nothing more than symbolic, but it's a good expression of the country's outrage.
jadedj: Thanks for posting this at your site. The more the merrier.
I'm afraid we can dream of success with this idea the same way the tea party types can dream of a successful impeachment process.
But I'm happy to sign the Moveon.org petition. As many people need to be heard as possible, and we can't allow our national mini-attention span to relegate this to the dustbin by November 2014.
Snave: I agree, expressing public outrage is the main purpose of this petition. And that's a good cause. These issues need to be front and center in the public consciousness during the 2014 election.
