Freedom Foundation will Back Up Its Rhetoric by Working on Labor Day

Now THAT'S dedication.  The Freedom Foundation a Washington State Astroturf group funded by the Koch Brothers and ALEC is going to live up to its union-busting rhetoric by having a work-in on Labor Day.

Oh My God, these guys are serious!  Tote that file!  Lift that briefcase!  Shuffle those papers!  And don't forget the ever-present danger of a paper cut.  There's a lot of grueling work involved if you want to sabotage the lives of people who actually work for a living.

Freedom Foundation CEO Tom McCabe said:

“I can’t think of a problem in society that can’t be traced in some way back to the abuses of organized labor, so it would be hypocritical of us to take a day off on its behalf.”

The Freedom Foundation calls labor unions a disease that's running rampant in Washington State.

Seattle Times columnist Danny Westneat responded with:

“What’s odd about it, though, is that only 12 percent of American workers even belong to unions anymore. Yet we — I say ‘we’ because I’m in that 12 percent — somehow retain an almost supernatural mind-meld authority over the oppressed and hapless other 88 percent.”

Unions gave us every workers' right we have. Sick pay, vacation pay, safe working conditions, 40-hour week (with overtime pay over 40), and job security.

Why would ANYONE want to jeopardize these rights? Once lost, we will never get them back.

Don't be fooled: these propositions are meant to benefit the corporations at the expense of the workers.

Do something about it! Vote NO!

SM: Absolutely. I have no idea how many thousands of workers were killed, maimed or beaten to a pulp, fighting for the workers' rights we all take for granted nowadays. It's unthinkable that we could be dumb enough to let these hard-won rights just slip through our fingers.

Those lazy electricians should quit sniveling for more handouts and be grateful they live in a Free Country.

So sad to say the Unions let this happen to themselves. Standing idly by and letting a corporate sponsored PA campaign ruin them. Even in TV shows the stereotype of the Union guy who makes money hand over fist while laying around has been etched in the minds of the Public.

I think Black Friday was the worse Idea ever.

No one cares if a CEO gets busted for tapping in the till, but if a Union leader does it, with millions of member’s hard earned dues money, well what looks worse?

Unfortunately they never cleaned up their acts and therefore Americans never cared if they lived or died, not knowing that if they died, so did their hard earned workers rights they all enjoy. The Conservatives aren’t just trying to eliminate the Unions, they want to get rid of all the Labor rights laws gained over the past 70 years.

If you have to be on your smartphones all day, then look up what conditions were like back then and ask yourself, if this is what you want?

Erik: I can't believe we're letting this happen, allowing these hard-won rights to slip through our fingers. The town of Sequim, near Port Angeles, will be voting on these two initiatives to weaken unions. The town is affluent and moderately liberal. One of the commenters at the end of this article is a liberal, judging by her Facebook page, and yet she's all gung ho in favor of these union-busting propositions. Unreal.

I just attended the Chelan City council meeting this evening. Spoke on behalf of the Union workers and called out the Freedom Foundation for who they really are. They are using the initiative process to drive a wedge between the workers and the city. It's called the "Transparency Initiative" but the hypocrites aren't transparent about their motive or funding. I've been a member of the Laborers, Teamsters and Locomotive Engineers Unions. I was the recipient in 2004 of the Thomas L Shay fund award for national rail safety that came from a Union member. So I showed up with my battered hard hat and just happened to drop it a few times to remind them that the Union was also here.
Thank you for your Work,

Dan: Thank you for attending that meeting. I understand Chelan and Shelton are in the same situation as Sequim, with these "grass roots" "transparency" initiatives being pushed by ALEC and the Koch Brothers. Washington State voters need to stop this ALEC infection from spreading.
