“Both Parties Are The Same”
Sign on the front door of our local Democratic headquarters:
“One of the most dangerous things in American politics is the patently false notion that 'both parties are the same.'
There's a reason Elizabeth Warren is a Democrat and the Koch brothers are spending millions of dollars to prevent Democrats from voting.”

The people saying "both sides do it" are generally Republicans who are embarrassed by the things Republican politicians say and do, but are not willing to say so. It is their way of rationalizing their support of Republican politicians while disagreeing with their positions.
Good post. Nothing infuriates me more than lazy people who think like that.
I remember when it took some effort for someone to explain why there WERE different. More often or not it was tradition ("Great-Great Grandpa came over on Ellis Island and registered Republican...")
At that same time, more things got done as well.

Jerry: Good point. "Both parties do it" is a popular defense for Republicans who are embarrassed by teabaggers and Biblehumpers.
Jim: And unfortunately this country is full of lazy thinkers.
Erik: True, I think "tradition" plays a big role, or used to anyway, in party affiliation. Jon Stewart was talking about that on his show a few years ago.
I think the two parties are both in the pockets of special interests, but the GOP far more so than the Democrats. I think there is a pretty stark contrast between the two parties.
Snave: Yup, both parties are bought and paid for, but the Democrats are the lesser of 2 evils.
