jadedj: And the best part is, these job off-shorings are subsidized by taxpayers. If your job got shipped overseas, your taxes helped to make it possible.
Yeah people are still worrying about the "Flood" over the border, and not concerning about being connected overseas every time they call the bank or the phone company.
There was a bill snuck in years ago by the GOP led congress that gave tax breaks to American (who's American anymore?) companies to hire foreign workers, but I thought the Democrats kicked it out when Pelosi took over to give part of that money to fund the Bush Medicare plan (dream on).
Probably more then one bill or they snuck it back in.
Erik: There are so many hidden riders in this budget bills, I'd bet most politicians don't even know what got passed and what didn't. When this recent government funding bill just got passed, I got all these ecstatic emails from environmental and animal rights groups, rejoicing all of the midnight drive-by attacks against the EPA and the Endangered Species Act had been deleted. That was my biggest worry, so I was relieved.
But some of the sucker-punch "amendments" that did pass include: preventing the IRS from jeopardizing the tax-exempt status of rightwing "charity" groups that use tax dollars for political smear campaigns; preventing the SEC from requiring all publicly-traded companies to inform stockholders of all political donations they've made; and weakening some of the banking regulations that would hopefully prevent another 2008-style meltdown.
