Egypt: History Being Made

Whatever ultimately happens in Egypt, today’s overthrow of Mubarak is historical. Monumental. Maybe it’s actually a military coup that’s disguised as a popular uprising, as this article says. Maybe Egypt will end up being ruled by the Muslim Brotherhood or some other badass America-hating terrorist organization.

Whatever.

Eighty million Egyptians have overthrown their 30-year dictator. The same thing has already happened in Tunisia. It might happen soon in Jordan, Yemen, Syria and other Arabic countries. And there’s a new country — South Sudan.

“The times they are a-changin’.”

“Something’s happening here and you don’t know what it is, do you, Mr. Jones.”

I don’t claim to know. It’s not for us to know, or worry about, or start pointing fingers and screaming about “Who lost Egypt?!?” The toothpaste is out of the tube. The world has changed.

“Don’t try to hold back the hands of the clock; they’ll pull your arms off.”

Songbird “John” McCain says these falling dominoes are a “virus” spreading throughout the Middle East. Other rightwing jackwagons are saying Obama “let this happen.” “This wouldn’t have happened” if we had a Republican in the White House.

Millions of other Americans are seeing this Middle Eastern firestorm only in terms of “what does this mean for America?” “How does this affect me?”

And each and every one of them can go perform an unnatural act on their parental units.

Lindsey Graham: “Shoot the Messenger!”

Most Americans are angry, horrified (but not surprised) at the information published by WikiLeaks. With all of the lives lost and the countless billions of dollars (that’s OUR money!) spent in Afghanistan, we have a right to know where our money is going and what people are dying for. If our Pakistani “allies” are secretly coordinating with the Taliban — uh, shouldn’t we know about this?

But there are a few twisted sickfucks who are pissed off for all the wrong reasons. They aren’t mad at the deception; they’re just angry that this information got leaked.

Lindsey Graham (R—CoverUp) wants to prosecute not only the people who leaked the information, but also the WikiLeaks website itself. He shat:

“I’m willing to prosecute anybody who led to undermining the war effort. As far as I know, there’s no immunity for a website to be able to pass on documents.”

Peter King (R—Slow) and Songbird McCain have also called for the prosecution of whoever leaked the information, but so far neither of them have talked about prosecuting WikiLeaks.

The Songbird said whoever leaked the information should be sentenced to life in prison.

Oh well, at least the Far Right is consistent. Don’t forget about conservatives’ uncontrollable fury when the name of a CIA operative was leaked and then got published by the late unlamented Robert Novak. Right? Don’t you remember???

Songbird McCain Gets a “D” from Veterans

Yes, everybody knows that John McCain was a …drumroll…

PRISONER

OF

WAR

And because of that, nobody is allowed to criticize him for ANY reason. Unfortunately, the current political M.O. (invented but not trademarked by Karl Rove) is to attack a political opponent’s strongest point; not his weaknesses.

That’s how John Kerry got transformed in 2004 from a Vietnam Veteran to “Hanoi John” (among other nicknames). And in 2008, Hanoi John begat Songbird McCain. Check out some of those links. Maybe they're true; maybe not.

While the “media” keeps reminding everybody that McCain was a ***Prisoner***Of*** War*** and regurgitating his “I’d rather lose an election than lose a war” soundbite, they keep forgetting to mention a few other things. For instance, McCain has fought tooth and nail against almost every effort to help war veterans AFTER they’ve come home.

An expanded G.I. Bill, improved medical care for wounded and disabled veterans — you name it, McCain is against it.

The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America has given McCain a D rating.

IAVA board member Adam Kokesh attended the Republican Convention. When he protested during McCain’s speech, McCain supporters shouted “U.S.A.! U.S.A.!” to drown him out. At that point McCain interrupted his own speech to say, “Please, please don't be diverted by the ground noise and the static.”

All righty then. While you're over there fighting, you come in handy as a soundbite — a stage prop. But if you come home and start whining about some sort of injury or whatever, you're just “noise and static.”

Fuck off Songbird.
