Government Finally Acts on Katrina!

OK, that’s enough about our government’s inept spastic “response” to Hurricane Katrina. Yes, FEMA officials had their thumbs up their yinyangs; the one entity Bush WASN’T spying on was the Weather Channel. Etc.

But let’s give them credit now. The federal government is finally acting.

Five days after Hurricane Katrina struck, a county sheriff in Mississippi took some initiative. Sheriff Billy McGee seized two FEMA trucks that were filled with ice, and distributed the ice to stricken residents.

Several diabetic residents probably would’ve died without the sheriff’s action. Without ice they had no way of keeping their insulin cold. One resident said “Man, I was wanting to hug Brother Billy when I saw that ice. We were glad somebody was there to help us.”

And now the sheriff might be prosecuted on charges of interfering with a federal operation. What, you mean there was one?

It's always good to know that our government has it's priorities. Why am I not surprised by this story? No good deed goes unpunished. :-(

The Only Reason why the aid is moving at any pace is because GOP Congressmen and Governors are at least putting their contituients (IE their political asses) over the president.

Erik: Yeah, that's probably the reason. Hopefully more GOP politicians will see that their only chance to survive is to distance themselves from Bush.

Action??!! Ya they're taking action all right. The whole incident with Sheriff McGee never should have happened. Then when it did, the political pundits got caught with their pants down and egg on their perverbial faces.
So to save FACE Haley Barbour stumps around and declares heads will roll over the ice tractor trailer incident, and orders charges be brought.
So what do the Feds do? They say ok Billy plead guilty to a misdemeanor, or we charge you and your men with Felonies, because the Federal government didn't take action in the first place.
Call it what you want, but it's political punditry at its WORST!
A local official takes action, makes the state and federal governments look inept( which they were by the way), so they punish the guy for it.
Yup way to go!!!!! Well, I'm on Billys side on this one. Anyone who even considers prosecuting Billy ought to take a long walk off a short dock.

Thanks
Chris

Chris: I couldn't agree with you more. The fact that Sheriff McGee had to act on his own just shows how inept and useless FEMA and the Homeland Security Deptartment are. If they're actually going to prosecute him on top of that -- it's unthinkable.

The fact the this sheriff acted in the way that he did shows his lact of respect for the lae he is sworn to uphold and now he allows his deputies to hide behind all the glory that his supporters shower on him. Id like to hear that his deputies are being held accountable for their part. They know RIGHT form WRONGE and they made their choice to be part
