American Family Association (Again!)
The American Family Association is gloating about the FCC’s fine of $3.6 million against CBS for the “obscenity” of “Without A Trace.” The FCC also reaffirmed its $550,000 fine against CBS for Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction two years ago. (Move on, Biblehumpers! There's a world out there.) Hallelujah! Bookburners Rejoice! 1, 2, 3 — speak in tongues!
Donald Wildmon and his fellow snakehandlers want you to click here to thank the FCC for reviving the Salem Witch Trials. This site has a separate box where you can tailor your own message. (Now be nice. Or not.) I wrote:
“The Taliban, Osama bin Laden and the American Family Association join me in thanking you for upholding the imaginary spewings of God/Allah. Death to all Infidels!”
Please send YOUR message to the FCC. Tell them whether you want our government to remain a democracy, or mutate into an Islamofascist police state. Make your voice heard Now.

My memo to them:
Tell me why the remote is not enough?
Why do we need YOU or anyone else to tell me or my family what we can and cannot watch?
Without A Trace is an adult show on at an adult hour and should be treated as such.
This is a crime drama.
If you don't like adult television, then you have the power to change the channel and watch something else.
Wait. What's wrong with a police-state again?
Oh, that's right. Never mind.
Mike V.: Excellent response. I've never even seen that show (I don't really watch that much TV) but all they have to do is pick up the remote and push a button.
Brad: At the rate things are going, we're probably gonna find out about that police state.
I have seen it a few times, and for the most part, it seems to be a pretty decent crime drama.
Nothing will ever top the best NYPD Blue or Law & Order episodes, but it's not bad.
And again, it's for adults, of course.
It comes on AFTER CSI.
I wonder if they have ever complained to the FCC about showing gore on that show before 10pm. Because they most certainly do.
Mike V.: But you don't understand, gore is good and manly and makes you a redblooded American. Sex and nudity will threaten the moral fiber of this great nation.
From the genius Ambrose Bierce and his wonderful book "The Devil's Dictionary":
Puritan: a man who no's what he likes.
Puritanism: The haunting feeling that someone, somewhere, might be happy.
Snave: I've always liked Ambrose Bierce because of quotes like that. He sure had those Religious Right wingnuts dialed.
