Who Hijacked Our Country

Kit Bond (R-Missouri): “Zee Paperss Pleasse! Vee Haf Vays of Making You Talk!”

Calling all conservatives. Time to dust off your old “America: Love It Or Leave It” bumperstickers. You finally have an occasion to use it. We now have a truly un-American traitor who clearly hates everything America stands for. He should purchase a one-way ticket to the police state of his choice. Buh bye!

Two days ago, the months-long battle of retroactive telecom immunity finally came to an end. The final score: Third Reich 1, Democracy 0. (Yes Goddammit our slutty Democrats bent over and spread their cheeks for Dumbya yet again — did you really have to ask?)

As we’ve all been noticing, things have been changing in America since the Reichstag Fire September 11th attacks. The blueprint for America 2.0 was nicely summed up by Congressman Kit Bond (R-Missouri):

I vass only following orderss I’m not here to say that the government is always right, but when the government tells you to do something, I’m sure you would all agree that I think you all recognize that is something you need to do.”

Take that, Founding Fathers! Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of… Sig Heil!

The terrorists have won.

Oh. I had to go to the original and check for myself if he really said that. Incredible.

OM: Yup, he really said it. It hasn't gotten much coverage either. I found out through an e-mail and then did a Google search for the exact quote. Only four links came up.

I had not heard that quote either. Feels like we're living in some kind of upside-down world lately.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president... is morally treasonable to the American public."
- Theodore Roosevelt

I think that one applies today in a number of ways.

Bond isn't a congressman. I can understand the confusion, though, because he's every bit as dense, arrogant and backward as the average House Republican. And, House Republicans are the lowest form of legislative life in the country.

The tortured wording of his statement is a pretty good indication of what passes for his thought processes.

Since Missouri voters elected the very sharp Claire McCaskill to the Senate two years ago, I hold out hope they've sufficiently recovered from whatever possessed them when they elected Bond that they might finally give him the boot.

I would especially like to see Dick Gephardt run for Bond's seat and win.

As for the FISA thing, I look for it to be re-revised after Obama gets elected. I hope so, anyway.

The "turrists" won years ago. As log as "Stepnfetchit" Reid and "Nanny" Pelosi remain in power, the "turrists" can expect even greater victories.

But hey, you and me? We're saving the Government valuable eavesdropping time and money by putting our opinions right out in the open. When roundup time comes, they won't have to look very hard, will they?

Kristen: Yes, upside down is a good description.

Snave: I certainly like your Theodore Roosevelt quote better than what Dipshit said.

SW: "Tortured wording," yup, that sounds about right. But it's probably exactly what he was thinking.

Let's hope that Obama (or even McCain) will change this FISA law. McCain has done so many flipflops, it's hard to tell what he actually believes, if anything.

JR: Who needs terrorists or Republicans when we have Reid and Pelosi?

"When the roundup comes" -- LOL. Since we both have several years worth of Leftist America-hating posts on the Internet, we'll be on the fast track to Gitmo.

Who is the dictator who told this wingturd he had to follow orders and violate everything the country stands for.

Sounds like he would make a good bedmate for Lapdog Lieberman.

Tom,

I don't know how to tell you, but OUR once great land is known as one of those despot regime countries now!! No, matter who wins people think that We are overwhelmingly controlled by "Evil Power Brokers"!! I was sittin' in a Honduran restaurant the other the day. The American next to me told me he was European, and that's what he tells everyone!! That is how bad our country has gotten!

Jolly Rogers,

You are so right! At least like some guys said,"The pen is mightier than the sword", and then there's the other "Better to die on your feet, than to live on your knees"!
I'll be your cell mate along with the listed other 8 million for immediate detention, but I ain't into droppin' tha' ole' SOAP, so if we agree on that then we can be "cellies"

Peace and Freedom

AHB: I think it's been true for a long time, that the rest of the world assumes America is being run by a small group of power brokers. I first read that in a travel book in the mid 1970s, that most Europeans, including conservatives, think of America as this 800-pound gorilla that does exactly what it wants when it wants.

And that was my own observation when I was out of the country for 2 years, 1975-77. Most people like Americans, whatever they think of the American government. But you won't hear any of that "America is Number One!" or "God Bless America" bullshit anywhere beyond our borders.

And even 30 years ago, a suspiciously high number of my fellow travelers seemed to be "Canadian."

Of course, for Republicans, all this blind obedience to the government ends when Obama gets elected.

AHB: That might be the safe thing to do these days. You never know when somebody might take out their anti-American feelings on an individual. When I was traveling, there was some anti-American feeling; the Vietnam war had just ended a couple of years earlier. But the anti-Americanism was nothing like it is now. The neocons have wrecked our international image for a long time to come.

It's darkly comic to watch them, in such a welcome climate, to spew their authoritarian desires more freely with each passing day.

Randal: True, they aren't couching it inside cozy euphemisms any more. They're perfectly comfortable just coming out and saying it. A sign of the times.
