U.S. Chamber of Commerce: “Won’t Somebody Please Come Out and Play With Me?”
Since corporations are people, what kind of person is the U.S. Chamber of Commerce? Technically, they’re not a corporation, of course. They’re more of a front group; a money-launderer.
If the U.S. Chamber of Commerce were a person, it would be the spoiled arrogant rich kid who thinks he can buy friendship, but everybody hates him. His family could buy the whole city, but he can’t buy a date and never gets invited anywhere.
Like the saying goes, if you lie down with Karl Rove, you wake up with lice and shit and slime all over you. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce worked with Rove — among other sleazebags — to raise $75 million for attack ads. The ads worked. Mission Accomplished.
But now a lot of local chambers of commerce have decided they can’t take the stench any more, and they’re cutting ties with the U.S. Chamber. Some large corporations have also dropped out of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for the same reason, including Pacific Gas & Electric.
It makes sense. A chamber of commerce is supposed to be all about promoting business and economic growth — like the name implies — not political shitslinging and character assassination.
Hopefully a lot more corporations and local chambers will cancel their affiliation with this gang of money-laundering sleazebuckets.

It would be sweet justice if the U.S. Chamber board (I assume it has one) were to react to the defections by administering a suppository to the organization, causing Tom Donahue to be expelled forcefully into the ranks of the unemployed.
Donahue is a fat cat, so he wouldn't face dire circumstances, of course. Just some well-deserved comeuppance for being the worst kind of "screw you all if you're not rich" economic Darwinist.
Sweet justice would be Donahue forced to work sub-minimum wage at McDonald's whilst subsisting only on McDonald's for the rest of his life.
My favorite Chamber story?
Instead of promoting American business they were bringing in experts from China to train business owners how to export their labor, etc., costs.
Now that's a full-service business promoter isn't it?
Actually, just another approved money launderer for the banksters.
21st century American business at its peak.

I agree with both SWA and Randal. I'm chuckling at the visual of Donahue expelled via suppository. :)
Good for the independent Chambers. I've never thought of them as particularly reactionary, but better a little bit than not at all.
SW: I like that suppository image. That organization's only hope is the forceful expulsion of Tom Donahue.
Randal: I like your idea too. Karma's a bitch.
Suzan: Pretty ironic, huh. Instead of promoting commerce, they're advising companies on the joys of outsourcing.
Screamin': I hope a lot of local chambers will cut ties with those sleazebags.
"A chamber of commerce is supposed to be all about promoting business and economic growth — like the name implies — not political shitslinging and character assassination."
The NRA used to be about promoting responsible gun ownership and use, and promoting education about firearms. Now, like the U.S. "Chamber of Commerce" it too is all about the shitslinging and character assassination too.
Seems like some organizations could really stand to be apolitical.
Snave: Good point about the NRA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Those 2 organizations (and others too no doubt) need to go over their mission statement, or history or something, and rediscover why the organization was founded in the first place. They've lost their way.
"Lost their way"?
Really?
LOST THEIR FUCKING WAY?
You're too kind Tom.
More like they've sold themselves enough to make a crackwhore blush.
Anonymous: "More like they've sold themselves enough to make a crackwhore blush." LOL. I like your description better.

Ah, but there's big money to be made operating the way the U.S. Chamber and NRA do. Check out the kind of money Donahue makes and Wayne LaPierre made. Then realize, every time they sound the alarm about some new gun or business regulation, some new tax they don't like, ca-ching, the money comes rolling in to wage political warfare against it. But of course, Donahue and LaPierre get their fat salaries, bonuses and perks, and their organizations take a bunch off the top.
Gullibility and paranoia of NRA types and the overweening greed of big business types make for a virtual license to print money for the Chamber, the NRA and their top executives.
