Republicans WANT to Destroy the Economy so Obama Won’t Get Re-Elected

Millions of observant voters have already known this for two years. But now — finally! — a prominent politician has had the stones to come out and say it.

Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley said:

“I think that there is an extreme wing within their party who have as their primary goal not the jobs recovery, but the defeat of President Obama in 2012. They know that their formulations, their policies of less revenues and less regulation badly failed our country and plunged us into this recession. So their only way of evening the playing field is to keep the president from being successful in the jobs recovery.”

He said certain high ranking Congressional Republicans: “…through their intransigence, cleverly set up a situation for America's economy to fail, either by needlessly driving us to default, or needlessly driving us into massive public sector layoffs. I think that they are disgracefully cynical.”

He continued:

“For eight years under George W. Bush, you never heard a peep from any of these most intransigent House members about the deficit that was being racked up by President Bush. Many of the same people who are claiming that there's no possible way that they can vote to raise the debt ceiling are people that voted to raise it in the past.”

What he said.

And McConnell already stated that his one priority was to make sure that Obama was not re-elected in 2012. He wanted Obama to be a one term president.

Makes you proud of our Congress, doesn't it?

Those are good quotes. The rest of the article is pretty negative toward Obama, in that it gives lots and lots of air time to the GOP rebuttals and draws some conclusions that suggest Obama is in trouble (nice editorializing within the article). It was good of the corporate media to report what Governor O'Malley said, but then it was typical of them to not expand on his words but to expand on the words and thoughts of those right-wingers rebutting him.

I suppose they are betting if we do default the public will blame Obama unlike when Gingrich had to take the blame during the Clinton govt. shutdown.

There's no doubt in my mind that this is exactly their plan. What concerns me is, they may just get their way regards a shutdown...and a hellofa lot of people are going to suffer.

Judi: Yup, I'm just bursting with pride over our "representatives" and the corporations that own them.

Snave: There's definitely a rightward slant to that article. But I guess we should be grateful for whatever crumbs the "media" throws us.

Erik: I think that's exactly what they're betting, even though every poll says otherwise.

JR: You're right, the "extreme wing" IS the GOP.

jadedj: The teatards would love a government shutdown, but I don't think it'll happen. Wall Street, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturers -- they've all ordered their prostitutes not to allow a shutdown.

If the destruction of the US economy is what it takes to destroy Obama, then the "money-first-America-last" GOP will do whatever it takes.

Dave: And after they succeed, the "money-first-America-last" GOP will wail "Blame America First" when they get called out on their sleazy agenda and tactics.

SW: Damn, I don't know what happened to your comment; I never saw it. Now that I'm not using comment moderation any more, nothing gets sent to the spam folder.

I guess Blogger ate it. Sorry about that.
