Congress More Hated Than BP, the IRS and Communism

Oh, and Paris Hilton too.

I don’t know what this all means; probably nothing.  I’ve always been amused by these statistical displays, like Harper’s Index (no relation).

Senator Michael Bennet (D—Colorado) had a field day with these public approval ratings on MSNBC’s “Daily Rundown” last week:

The IRS:  40%

BP (during the height of last year’s oil spill):  16%

Paris Hilton:  15%

The idea of America “going Communist” — 11%

Huge Chavez:  9%

U.S. Congress:  9%

As the linked article says:

“Bringing the government to a standstill over and over again to spite Barack Obama (current approval 47% and tracking upward) is working out really well.”

It isn't real easy to find anyone there to admire, these days. I will be overjoyed when the last of the "Lamest Generation" go the hell away.

it's good to have the bully pulpit like Obama does so he can stand there and smugly lie.

Nothing new here. Congress has the approval rating it deserves. And something tells me that if the bully pulpit changes hands, smug lies will be the least of our problems.

MRMacrum, amen and indeed, we have already experienced the results of the last bully pulpit bullies. The potential gang in the current wings will make GWB and company look like a piker

And the lies are astounding. Dems took charge of congress in 2006 and POTUS in 2008 and they didn't do much. The Republicans have passed all sorts of bills in the house and senate but they get blamed for ganging on Obama. We have the MSM to thank for that. POTUS prefers to place a whole bunch of unelected czars and pass all kinds of laws and regulation. I always say, the Dims really don't care about freedom or the Constitution.

@Jeanie, passing laws that say In God We trust is the country's motto and ceremomial coins celebrating the baseball hall of fame is not passing laws, that is pushing paper across a desk to make it look like you are doing something when the boss comes around. So my task should you care to accept it, since you brought it up we need proof. Show us on the doll, where Boehner has done all the things you say he has vs what those do nothing dems did the time they were in. We, I'm certain, we will ALL be waiting for this one. Me, myself and I cannot wait to see, what your amazing google skills come up with as proof of your oh so suspect claims.

Nancy Pelosi accomplished more in her first 100 days as speaker than Lord of Orange has in his time, which is hint, more than 100days.

The GOP House and the Republicans in the Senate ARE doing their job. After all, numbers of them have stated that their purpose is to stop Obama in his tracks. It doesn't matter if some of what he proposes are things with which the GOP has agreed in the past. The GOP is not about creating jobs or solving our economic woes. They are about breaking things, doing nothing to fix anything, and then trying to make it all look like Obama's fault.

And the thing about all the stuff Obama has done in which he has bypassed Congress? It's very simple. He has been trying for quite some time to get the Republicans in Congress to agree to anything. Anything at all. And because they do nothing but put up a brick wall, they why not go ahead and take more measures like those he has taken recently?

It's the only way he can get anything done.

JR: I hope Obama's relatively high 47% approval rating will give him incentive to stand up to Congress more often.

MRM: You're right about that -- smug lies will be the least of our problems if a Republican gets in.

jadedj: Imagine looking back on GWB's reign of error as the good old days. How sad is that.

Jess: I third the motion.

Jeannie: I see you've got all your talking points and soundbites memorized.

jadedj: Yup -- czars! Freedom! And of course the liberal media.

Jess: Now be fair to the Lord of Orange. He has too accomplished a lot; he just has a different set of goals. He's been trying to set a record for the largest amount of Jack Daniels swilled per day, and he's winning.

Snave: You're right, the GOP is performing their job as ordered. The oligarchs have ordered them to block, obstruct and delay everything Obama tries to do, and they've followed their orders like good little soldiers.

Americans practice a peculiar kind of group punishment on Congress. Going back decades, polls consistently show just about everyone and their dog thinks Congress as a whole gives new meaning to the term "worse than useless." Yet, most Americans rate their own member of Congress much higher. Apparently, whoever you are, wherever you are, you probably think your member of Congress is better than average, while all those others from other places are worse than average.

Go figure.

There's plenty to criticize and condemn about Congress. But one unfortunate thing about doing it is that the best in Congress get tarred along with the worst.

To SW Anderson - I used to rate my senators higher. Now they are nothing but party hacks who stand united with the current Republican strategy of getting Obama at any cost. The two Democrats in Congress are useless in that they belong to the party with no balls. Together the four of them and their fellow congress people are screwing us, even if one side doesn't mean to.

What's astoundung is the number of "poor white trash" that keep these goopers in office.

I seem to remember a certain drunken arrogant fratboy declaiming that the Constitution was just a goddamned piece of paper so STOP WAVING THE Constitution IN MY FACE!

Macrum, I know you're right about your senators and trust you are about the two Dems as well. The answer is to encourage and look for reform-minded replacements to run against them. If you find some, do all you can to support them.

SW: That's the crux of the problem. Everyone yells "throw the bums out!" while simultaneously re-electing their own bum. I'm as guilty as anyone.

MRM: That's too bad about Maine's senators. I always thought of them as moderate and reasonable. Sorry to hear they're under the oligarch's spell. And you've got it dialed about Democrats with no balls. Republicans charge full speed ahead in the wrong direction; Democrats stand there mewing "uh, are you sure?" or "me too, I think."

Anonymous: The poor white trash have been conned into voting for their own oppressors; voting against their own interests.

Demeur: She has a close relative who works in the food and water industry, and you just wouldn't believe how careful and conscientious those people are. They take great pride in their work and they don't need to be controlled by socialist bureaucrats.

Erik: Some things never change.

Lisa: Are you Jeannie's parrot?
