“Allegiance” — Totally Original New Network TV Series. NOT!!!!!

“Allegiance” is an upcoming NBC series about the family conflicts and internal dilemmas of Russian spies living in the United States.  Wow!!!  What a novel idea for a TV series.

This is groundbreaking!  Nobody has ever thought of anything like this before.

I have nothing against this new TV show.  I might even check it out this Thursday.  Maybe there's room for more than one TV program about Russian spies living in the U.S. and trying to blend in.

But I'll be mighty pissed off if Allegiance becomes a huge hit while The Americans (FX, Wednesdays at 10 p.m.) — “the best TV program you're not watching” — continues to get excellent critical reviews and rock-bottom Nielsen ratings.

Just saying.

I tried to watch "The Americans" but found many of the scenarios so corny and outlandish that I couldn't keep watching it. I might give "Allegiance" a chance though.

Karlo: Corny? Not to me. Don't forget the series takes place in 1982. I'm on the edge of my seat throughout every episode. Maybe Allegiance won't be too similar, since it takes place in the present. But with The Americans struggling for viewership, the last thing it needs is a copycat series being pushed by one of the networks.

I'll probably check out Allegiance out of curiosity. But with few exceptions, most network shows are all glitz and no substance; all hat and no cattle. IMHO. Most of my favorite programs are on FX and AMC.

Why do they keep stealing ideas from good shows. Same thing with CSI Cyber. It was a show called Intelligence a little while ago and it bombed so they figure what, oh let's redo it with some other people see if it works. I'll stick to my off the wall shows thank you very much.

Jess: I haven't heard of CSI Cyber or Intelligence. I too like off-the-wall shows better than mainstream/network shows. The only network show I'm into right now is Madame Secretary. It's good; not great. But I'm glad to see Tim Daly, Tea Leoni and Bebe Neuworth all in the same program.

Intelligence had one of the guys from Lost in it and Marg helgenberger as the boss. He had been fitted with a computer chip and was able to do virtual walk throughs of crime scenes using his chip technology. They canceled that, canceled Almost Human which was also a good show with Karl Urban and Michael Ealy. It was like Blade Runner met up and had a baby with Total Recall, really good sci fi show.

forgot to say I'm only watching a few network shows too. Elementary, Forever (this is like Highlander and Sherlock had a baby :) Agents of Shield and the new Agent Carter series. Rest of the stuff I watch is on cable, Vikings, Justified which will be gone soon, Walking Dead, Outlander, Banshee, Black Sails and a few others.

Jess: Thanks for the info. I wanted to like Justified, but somehow it just didn't click for me. All the ingredients are there, but they don't gel; or something.

Networks: stop poaching everybody else's good ideas and then using your big money to overwhelm them! America, stop believing what the big money says!

Anonymous: I agree. With a few exceptions, the cable channels are lean and hungry and they're the ones doing the inventing and creating. The networks are bloated and lazy. They just swoop in and pilfer an idea from a smaller channel, and then use their deep pockets to promote the beejesus out of their ripped-off "new" program.
