Halliburton and the Axis of Evil

When you hear “Iran” and “nuclear” in the same sentence, you probably imagine thousands of hysterical rioters and looters, a fire-breathing Mullah with his finger on The Button, and Halliburton?!?!?

While Dick Cheney and his little sockpuppet are whipping up hysteria about Iran having nuclear weapons, Halliburton — Cheney’s alma mater — has been working with Iran’s nuclear development team. They’ve sold centrifuges and detonators specifically for use in a nuclear reactor, according to Halliburton sources.

Cyrus Nasseri, a senior member of Iran’s nuclear team, has allegedly accepted $1 million in bribes from Halliburton while providing them with Iran’s nuclear secrets. Halliburton and the White House have both refused to comment on this.

Halliburton officially discontinued its work last Spring with Cyrus Nasseri, but has still been working with him in an “advisory capacity.”

The U.S. has laws prohibiting companies from doing business with “rogue, terrorist-sponsoring” countries — including Iran, Syria and Libya. Halliburton has a Cayman Island subsidiary which somehow wiggles out of these pesky restrictions.

Halliburton has been doing business in Iran since 1995. They’ve been in violation of U.S. sanctions at least since 2001, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Halliburton has been making about $40 million a year through its Iranian dealings. This is tiny compared to their multi-billion dollar contracts in Iraq.

Halliburton is probably the biggest and best-known violator of these U.S. sanctions. Conoco-Phillips and General Electric have also conducted massive operations in Iran and Syria.

There’s so much American business activity in these countries, that basically anyone with a retirement or investment portfolio probably has money invested in “rogue, terrorist-sponsoring” countries.

Is it just me, or are there a few contradictions here? Bush has said “we will make no distinction between the terrorists and the countries that harbor them,” and “money is the lifeblood of terrorist operations.”

Our civil liberties are going the way of the hula hoop. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights are being shat on. And this is all being done in the name of “fighting terrorism.” “If __________________ then the terrorists have won.” Remember those wacky TV ads saying if you use illegal drugs you’re financing al Qaeda.

Fear of terrorism is the driving force behind everything from the Patriot Act to the Iraqi invasion. Terrorists are out there, lurking, just waiting to strike as soon as we let our guard down. And every time Bush starts slipping in the polls, or another White House scandal erupts — “Terror Alert!!”

And yet some of the largest American corporations are doing billions of dollars worth of business in the exact countries that are supposedly “sponsoring terrorism.” We’re spending ourselves into bankruptcy and wrecking our own quality of life just to fight The Terrorists, and Big Business is in bed with them.

Things are getting curiouser and curiouser.

Mike V.: You're right. In some ways it's shocking, and in other ways all I can think is "that figures."

Welcome to the police state. Now the question is will we stand up and stop it or will we do nothing.

Jake: Probably do nothing. It'll be like Brave New World. Global corporations will have us in a straitjacket, but we won't care because TV will have 24/7 of puff pieces and celebrity gossip to keep us all entertained.

it's my first time to read your blog, I think it's great, anyhow, while you keep finding out such scandals, it's no big shock for us (arab muslim middle easterns), or actually it doesn't matter anymore.. america can't go down anymore! for us at least..

For me, I still can't believe how come that this pig was re-elected again, most of you realize what he's doin! so what is it then?

That is the way it is now, people don't realize television makes people stupid. All of my friends will set around and quote movies all day long.

Oh my God, Paris Hilton just urinated in a car! There is no more important story in America than that.

It's handy that the we'll have Arab-controlled ports so Halliburton can ship the parts to Iran...

Omar: Thanks for stopping by. Don't blame me, I was part of that 49% who didn't vote for that sack of shit. You're right, most Americans are spoonfed little news bites from the controlled mainstream "media," and that's all they know. These stories are only shocking to Americans; it's common knowledge almost everywhere else. I check international news sources -- Al Jazeera, BBC -- just to get different perspectives. More Americans should do that.

Jake: Yeah, it's unbelievable that the American public is so gullible and easy to manipulate. There was a Saturday Night Live skit about a secret agent who would manufacture a new Hollywood news item whenever another government scandal erupted, just to distract the public. The skit was almost too true to life to be funny.

J. Marquis: Yup, Halliburton and the UAE-controlled ports -- they'll make a great team.

Did you know that Halliburton was given no bid contracts under the Clinton Administration?

Oh snap, your argument just got shot to shit.

Did I say anything good about Clinton anywhere in this post? On the other hand, the post DOES mention that Halliburton was doing business in Iran from 1995 to the present. Those first 5 years were during Clinton's presidency.

But I hate to disappoint you, so I'll pretend I'm just shocked -- shocked! -- to learn that the Clinton administration was also corrupt.

Thank you all who responded to my comment,

I can realize what you are trying to say about the controlling media, though let me be honest, I can watch ABC and CBS from home, and I see what they show on their news, and for me, it is enough to see that Bush should be gone!

to be honest also, I also watch hollywood and celebrities news, I can't believe how those news can be distracting from the fact that your army is butchering children around the world, and your adminstration is creating one ugly image of you all around the globe, for God's sake! don't you care??

In my life I knew lots of americans, and frankly, I find americans to be the most decent and honest people of the west, the voices that you see here at this blog is even more awared than those for Arabs who deal with america face to face, so what is the deal then?

Zionism is like a cancer in your congress and your media, for 360 million people (arabs), we think that this is a fact.

OmAr: Yeah, I don't know what to tell you. Too many unthinking American voters I guess. Karl Rove is the shrewdest political operative since Joseph Goebbels, and too many gullible voters are taken in by the phony wedge issues he comes up with. That's my theory anyway.
