Republicans: “We Care”

The Republican Party is being victimized by vicious leftwing propaganda. The Big Lie — orchestrated by godless liberals — is that Republicans don’t care about “regular people.”

Nothing could be further from the truth. Let’s examine a few of these urban legends.

“Republicans don’t care about working people.” OK, you just try telling that to our hard-working pharmacists. Some of these pharmacists have very strong moral convictions, and yet they’re being forced to give birth control pills to every cheap slut who comes up to the counter! Who do you think is protecting the rights of these downtrodden workers? Republicans!

“Republicans don’t care about the elderly and disabled.” For years, treehuggers have been trying to limit helicopter flights over the Grand Canyon. Something about “solitude” or the “spirituality of nature” or whatever. The corporations who provide these helicopter flights have used their tremendous clout to defeat any limits on helicopter flights. According to company spokesmen, these flights are very very profitable are the only chance for elderly and disabled travelers to get a close-up view of the Grand Canyon. And you thought a large corporation couldn’t have compassion.

“Republicans don’t care about consumers.” Just recently the Senate approved a bill to allow patients to save money by importing prescription drugs from Canada. But Republicans in the House are expected to save the day by defeating this bill. They’re concerned about consumer safety. Sure these drugs will be cheaper, but they might not be safe. Those icky third world Canadians don’t have the same high standards that we have here in America.

And the biggest lie of them all: “Republicans are threatening our right to privacy.” Now just hold the phone! Who’s been hounding that poor Dick Cheney for the last five years about his secret meetings with energy executives? “Who did you meet with?” “What did you talk about?” “We want to know” and on and on and on…And who’s been pestering the Bush Administration with that communist Freedom Of Information Act, again and again and again? The answer is the same in both cases: Democrats! Republicans have been tirelessly fighting for the privacy rights of corrupt politicians, and they will always protect them from public scrutiny and accountability.

If you're a crooked power-crazed politician, your privacy is being defended by Republicans.

I read through several of your post AWESOME job....we all have to unite, thank you. I fear Karl Rove more than anyone, because he isn't elected he can rear his ugly head anywhere at anytime. I've never known such evil.

Such sarcasm, Mr. Harper. I hear bitter. WhatEVER for? Seriously - What makes me so very ill - is that neither the Democrats, nor the REAL Republicans (I mean those who stand for small government and fiscal responsibility)will stand up - truly stand up to that small, evil and mighty group, (I'll call them the Dominionist Oligarchy) who will continue to do what they want - because there isn't anyone who'll really stop them. And neither side has a candidate worth anything to vote for to get us all out of this mess - Democrat OR Republican. There are no Roosevelts - Franklin OR Eleanor - no Trumans - no Goldwaters. We need to get someone to "find" compromising pictures of the current administration with various barnyard animals - apparently sex scandal is the ONLY thing that gets the ire of people churning to the point of actually being effective.

Blog-o-licious: Thanks. Yup, so much for "elections" when an unelected snake-oil salesman is pulling most of the strings.

Frstlymil: Bitter? Moi? You're right, there doesn't seem to be anybody of either party who has leadership ability AND actually cares about America. Nature abhors a vacuum, so She's given us this festering abcess in Congress and the White House.

I don't know if it would do any good to catch Bush (or any of the others) in a "compromised" position. Wingnuts are pretty good at being just shocked when a Democrat does something, and then rationalizing when a Republican does the same thing.

Yet another good one! I chuckle quite a bit when I read your posts. You have quite a talent for scraping away the layers of muck and exposing the truth.

The Repugs care about regular folks...they want to make damn sure we all know our places... and stay in them! Yep, "We the people" are merely "We the serfs" to to the GOP coporate aristocracy. Urban myth has it that their shit doesn't stink but my nostrils detect an odiferous stench wafting from Washington, D.C.

Kitchen Window Woman: Thanks. Oh yes, Republicans care about regular folks. They need cheap labor, and Wal-Mart needs customers.

It's funny, right after I read your post yesterday, I was reading the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, and a columnist was saying the exact same thing. He was in the checkout line and the newsrack was nothing but Britney and Brangelina and 3-headed Elvises and space aliens. At least more of us are starting to notice this.

The Republicans in the Congress have betrayed their Conservative base.

But nobody is saying anything about it.
