Pope: “Bring Europe Home to Jesus”

Jesus would be turning in His grave if He could see what’s happened to His beloved continent. Europe was once a paradise teeming with Godfearing Christians. But now it’s deteriorated into a hopeless den of iniquity, overrun with every sort of degenerate filth — atheists, Muslims, pagans, socialists, you name it.

And now, finally, Pope Benedict is speaking out. During a speech in Brno, Czech Republic, the Pope gave a stern lecture to a continent full of sinners:

“Man needs to be liberated from material oppressions, but more profoundly, he must be saved from the evils that afflict the spirit…As Europe listens to the story of Christianity, she hears her own. Her notions of justice, freedom and social responsibility, together with the
cultural and legal institutions established to preserve these ideas and hand them on to future generations, are shaped by her Christian inheritance.”

He also said Europe’s religious roots “supply the continent with the spiritual and moral sustenance that allows her to enter into meaningful dialogue with people from other cultures and religions…Maintain the spiritual patrimony inherited from your forebears ... guard it and make it answer to the needs of the present day.”

Amen.

Lew: Yup, they knew what to do. Who needs waterboarding when you've got the rack and the iron maiden.

The good old days of the Inquisition, such techniques wouldn't be tolerated in this day and age, we are far to civilized.

The Pope must be getting worried, what with all the non-Christians and secularism on the rise, funds must be drying up, those pointy hats cost serious money.

Being Czech myself (I'm first born American)I was quite interested in his visit to CR and discovered the more altruistic reason for his visit which I have posted about over at the Swash Zone:
http://swashzone.blogspot.com/2009/09/we-want-your-national-treasure.html
since the fall of communism in 1989, the Vatican has had an ongoing battle to reclaim as its own St Vitus Cathedral which is located within the compound of Prague Castle. It is a national treasure where the remains of Bohemian kings and queens and even saints which includes St Wenceslaus are interred.
Is it any wonder the Czechs view his visit with great sceptism, believing him to be more interested in property acqusition than saving souls.
And when you take into consideration that the man uttering all these admonishments was once a Hitler Youth in countries that suffered greatly under Nazi occupation... he could have saved some time and money and stayed home.

Holte: I think you've dialed it, it's that combination of increased secularism and all those child-diddling priests coming back to bite 'em on the ass (no pun intended).

Rockync: That was a good post. I left a comment.

Lisa: OMG, Muslims committing gay-bashing and crimes against women? American Bible-thumping rednecks are the only people who have the right to do that. This is an outrage.

Demeur: Yup, interesting segue, from Hitler Youth to fire and brimstone.

True, Tom, but would it really hurt for them to come up with a little new material here and there?

I'm beginning to think somebody's having fun with us. Our friend is too much the caricature for me to completely buy into her.

Were you trying to refute me, or prove my point? First of all, the more religion there is, the more poverty there is, and it doesn't matter what religion. In addition, any cursory glance at the quality of life indexes gives the lie to your supposed "disaster" point, and you must be bat-shit insane if you believe your "crimes" point.

You have to be funnin' us. Nobody's that stupid.

Does anyone else want to go to Europe, plant a big oak tree, and get some pagan blood sacrifices going followed by feasting and orgies? Maybe it's just me.

I agree with JR, Lisa is just playing a game, a town hall spoiler, he/she doesn't say anything, especially on Lisa's Thoughts.

Lisa: You really should either change the name of your blog, or put up at least one post there. You've gotta admit it looks pretty funny to click on a site called "Lisa's Thoughts" and all you get is a blank screen.

JR: I don't know what the story is on Lisa. She was one of 4 or 5 regular rightwing commenters at Bring It On! for several years (until it finally collapsed), and most of them didn't have a blog or website of their own. For all I know they're all the same person.

Randal: Sounds like a plan.

Holte: You're right, that blog title is too funny.
