Mark Kirk — “Moderate” Republican

Congressman Mark Kirk has won the Republican nomination to run for Obama’s old Senate seat this November. He’s supposed to be the most “moderate” of the Republican candidates who were running in the Illinois primary.

Well, everything’s relative.

I first heard of Mark Kirk last summer, when he introduced legislation to INCREASE the penalties for marijuana possession. He wants a 25-year minimum sentence for anyone who “distributes” marijuana that has a THC content of 15% or higher. Passing a joint around at a party, giving a joint to a friend — that’s Distributing. Twenty-five years!

I did a post on it at the time.

Twenty-five years for “distributing” marijuana?!?!? This must be part of that “Freedom!” and “Limited Government!” that conservatives are always blubbering about.

This dickwad is a “Moderate???” According to whose logic???

Oh. Nevermind.

Sorry I asked.

It’ll be a sick commentary on the American public (as if we haven’t had enough of that already) if Barack Obama’s Senate seat goes to this putrid sack of shit.

Kirk has been watching "Reefer Madness" again. If the Illinois Democrats can get their acts together, he should be well beatable.

tick tick tick...... our time as "e pluribus unum" is almost over. Perhaps a Kirk election would be the final straw.

TomCat: At this point I think even Genghis Kahn would be a spineless RINO moderate.

Randal: Me too.

Holte: It really is "Reefer Madness" rearing its head in the 21st century. Unbelievable.

JR: Yup, the clock is ticking. One of these upcoming elections or court decisions will probably be the final nail.

I swear I have no idea where I am living anymore. Is the collective memory so bad, that people are forgetting just how much non governing the reps did while they held majority. Or are these morons just hoping beyond hope they too will become rich like their overlords? I am about sick of the whole, blaming this one and that one out of these tools in office, because no one is willing to stand up and fight for us, the little people.

Jess: I agree, sometimes I wonder which country this is, or which parallel universe. The Republican minority has a stranglehold over the entire government, a "moderate" "limited government" Republican wants 25-year minimum sentences for pot -- up is down, black is white.

It's a proven fact: marijuana is a gateway drug. After I started smoking pot, I moved on to nicotine, caffeine, and alcohol. Giving up pot was easy, but the others? Not so much.

I'm thinking the pot issue is something like "teh ghey" issue. It is not a matter of if anymore it's a matter of when will it be fixed. Too many people like myself are recreational users and couldn't care less so it is just better to legalize and tax it. This whole deal about limited government. Yeah they want it small when it protects corporations, but when it comes to knowing who you want to be married to or rights over the female body they have no problems with big brother intruding.

I keep hearing how the reps are the party of personal responsibility, but as we have seen with those women's rights I spoke about and marriage equality they are all about nope we have to tell you how to live. If it wasn't for the fact it is illegal, I would gladly choke sense into them.

Lew: Yes, all these gateway drugs. No doubt every toothless burned-out meth addict started down that slippery slope by drinking a cup of coffee.

Jess: I don't know how these wingtards can keep a straight face when they talk about "limited government" and "self-reliance." A "limited government" that spies on everybody and regulates everyone's personal behavior; self reliance and personal responsibility for Wall Street CEOs, as long they can keep getting bailed out by taxpayers.

Yeah not sure how you gage moderate and GOP in the same sentence BUT we do have many of them here in CT and they usually vote fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Some of them are actually more bearable than the blue dog dems. but that's up here and they would never make it on the national stage.

Ricardo: Connecticut is definitely one of the more liberal states; along with most of the Northeast and the West Coast. But in too many other states, it's hard to tell the teabaggers from the "moderate" Republicans.
