John Boehner: “I Did Not Have Sexual Relations with That Woman, Miss Lyons”
Take that, all you two-faced Biblehumping “Values” assholes. What goes around comes around.
Allegedly, the New York Times is sitting on a story — to be released in October — that John Boehner has been having an affair with a lobbyist, Lisbeth Lyons.
Oh My God! Is this the kind of wayward immoral heathen that we want soiling the office of Speaker of the House??? Remember the GOP rallying cry against Clinton during Monicagate — “This isn’t about sex. This is about lying to the American people!”
Bring on the Fire and Brimstone.
(Here are some links to the story.)
This is just too poetic. The Republicans spent eight years throwing stones at Bill Clinton; and almost two years throwing stones at Barack Obama. It’s all they know how to do. And now it turns out they’re living in a glass house. Uh oh.
Wouldn’t it be a shame if the GOP’s glass house got shattered to smithereens. Let the smear campaign begin.

Actually, he DIDN'T say that he wasn't doing Ms. Lyons when he was caught on camera.
Dammit.... you beat me to this one. But I did some fine artwork for the occasion.
I wonder if some of that orange rubbed off on her?
Your forgetting that values are for other people, if Republicans kept the same standards they hold everybody else up to Newt Gingrich would be working at Best Buy right now.....
Another values gooper banging someone not his wife. That'll last in the news cycle for five seconds.
I've been holding off until it came out in the NYT, hoping for more detail about de tail.
Ah, but it's only a forgivable "mistake" if a Republican does it. It is clearly a lack of morals when a Dem does it.
The GOPers, with their team mentality, are willing to forgive or ignore any transgression on the part of someone they believe to be one of them. This should come as no surprise.
Following on what Lew said, TanFastic smudges would be a dead giveaway.
If this is true and the story materializes, I wonder if it will have much impact. Clinton was president, but Boehner is well down the pecking order. I doubt most Americans know he could become speaker of the House.
Wing nuts overplayed their hand on Clinton, and it backfired. I would advise Dems to let the story have whatever impact it's going to have, and hope Boehner's fellow Republicans do whatever dirty work gets done.
There has been so much evidence of conservative Republicans' hypocrisy over so many years, I think most Americans know it and either accept it or have grown numb to it.
If they're not diddling little boys, or grown men in the airport bathroom, they're diddling interns.
They're kind of pathological that way.
If it's true, I think it can only be seen as good news for the Dems, although it's sad they would have to rely on stuff like this to get votes. I'd rather see them making points with their agenda and their party platform.
This might be enough to cost the GOP some votes. I am not sure it will be enough to lose them very many seats they might gain in November, but we could only hope it will. By releasing it in a week or so (just a month prior to the elections) will it be too little too late?
I believe this could be *somewhat* damaging for the Republicans, in that a number of ads I have seen (where I live) for GOP House candidates are tying Democratic incumbents to Nancy Pelosi as they try to turn her name (or any association with her and therefore her party) into the kiss of political death.
If there are independent voters out there wondering which House candidate to vote for, this kind of scandal could help the Dems turn the "guilt by association" approach back on the Republicans. A month prior to the elections, it might give the Dems some time to get some dirty attack ads together.
It might get at least some voters to think twice before automatically voting for the Republican candidates. If someone who is a driving force behind the GOP is put on the defensive and has a lot of icky questions to answer publicly, that's fine with me. It is the kind of thing that will be in the news for a while... It can't hurt!
For those who have already made up their minds to vote Republican period, it won't make much difference.
When we are talking about how they want to do whatever is necessary to destroy the president, I don't think the hardcores will care. Even adulterers will be welcome in the effort to destroy Obama and his agenda. For many, it will be just fine if Boner is a "fornicator" and a liar as long as he says he won't raise our taxes and that he will work to roll back whatever our Kenyan-born Muslim president has done. And even if some heavy dirt comes out about Boner's *friends*, the hardcores probably won't care, and will probably just be convinced to blame the revelations on the (yawn) "liberal media". If they're hardcores, they're hardcores, after all.
Maybe those controlling the story need to confirm details to make sure their asses are covered, but if not, I would have opted for releasing it a month ago (a real "liberal media" would have released such a story as soon as it was a rumor)! I believe they shouldn't be sitting on the story, if they have it.
Momentum can be a tricky thing, but when it is on such a large scale, it can take a while to build. Would it have been better to have released the story around Labor Day? Or would that have given Boner too much time to shed the story?
That's getting to be a mighty weird tent they have. Lesbian bondage clubs, closet queens and the newest member of the I'm taking a hike on the A trail. And of course as BA points out male congressional pages.
When do the Satanic rituals start that's what I want to know? Randal are you up for that?
JR: Good picture.
Lew: That would be too funny to see Gingrich working as a harried cashier at Best Buy.
Randal: The public is no doubt jaded by now with all the "values" assholes saying one thing and doing the opposite.
TC: "More detail about de tail" LOL.
Dave: So true, a "mistake" vs. "lack of morals."
Thomas: You're right, it's not a bit surprising.
SW: I doubt if this will have much impact. For that matter I don't really care what Boner or anybody else does when they're off duty. But it's poetic to see some of the rightwing dirt-digging and smearing coming back to bite one of them.
Bee: Little boys, grown men and interns -- the Republican Big Three.
Snave: I too would rather see campaigns based on rational discussion and level-headed disagreement. But unfortunately that seems to be as passe as the hula hoop and the stagecoach.
I doubt if "Bonergate" will have much impact one way or the other. But it's enjoyable to see Republican smearmasters getting hoisted on their own petard (or whatever that expression is).
Demeur: That Republican "Big Tent" keeps changing. Sometimes it's limited to pure capitalists who thump the Bible. Other times it includes "Lesbian bondage clubs, closet queens and the newest member of the I'm taking a hike on the A trail." They can't seem to make up their minds.
You guys are forgetting. If caught all he has to do is say he's a Christian and beg for forgiveness.
Works every time
Erik
Erik: No doubt, he'll pull a Jimmy Swaggart and go on TV sobbing and begging for forgiveness.
