Republican Hostage Takers: “Give My Rich Friends Another Handout or the Middle Class Gets It!”

That was short-lived. Just yesterday, John “The Crying Game” Boehner said House Republicans would agree to extending the Bush tax cuts to everyone except the wealthiest 2-to-3%. That was then.

Now the orange flipflopper is saying that if the wealthiest Americans (i.e. the people who are financing his re-election campaign) don’t get their tax cut, NOBODY gets one.

To anyone more observant than Terri Schiavo, it’s been clear for months that Republicans don’t give a flying fuck about working Americans. They’re willing to wreck millions of lives just so they can block everything Obama tries to do. This makes Obama and Congressional Democrats look weak and ineffective — which they are — and then Republicans can swoop in to the “rescue” in November by re-taking the House and possibly the Senate too.

But this is the most blatant display yet. Tens of millions of struggling Americans will twist in the wind unless the people with five vacation homes, a yacht and a Swiss bank account also get THEIR tax break. Is there anybody who still doesn’t get it?!?!?!?

And speaking of hateful Republicans, this news story combines two of the things Republicans hate the most: the economic stimulus program and hybrid vehicles. To paraphrase an old Zen parable — what’s the sound of hundreds of Republican legislators gnashing their teeth and pulling their hair out.

Today in Michigan, A123 Systems Inc. opened a plant in Livonia, Michigan. They’ll be making lithium ion batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles. And the opening of this plant was made possible by that commie stimulus package.

President Obama said:

“This is about the birth of an entire new industry in America, an industry that's going to be central to the next generation of cars. And it's going to allow us to start exporting those cars, making them comfortable, convenient, and affordable....When folks lift up their hoods on the cars of the future, I want them to see engines and batteries that are stamped: 'Made in America.'“

I am personally, individually scared to think of Republicans being further empowered in Congress. Their economic fascism wrecked my retirement plans. Their imperialistic decisions endanger my children and grandchildren. They dictate beliefs and values. Yep, it's personal.

"That was short-lived."

Which is why I chose not to do a post on it last night. I saw the story about Boehner's surprise statement being flogged all over the news sites, and resolved to do something on it this evening, in the unlikely event he was still holding to what he said on CBS Sunday. Sure enough, he wasn't.

This is nothing new for Republicans. I did a short 2006 item in a this 'n' that post about then-Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and his problem with expressing unauthorized thoughts. Anyone with enough morbid curiosity can get insight into why the man gave up his Senate career and presidential aspirations by scrolling down to "Revolving Republican" after clicking here.

OMG Moe is poking Curly in the eye and pulling on Larry's hair. This may actually work. Now if the Democrats can go for the kill....

... and the worst part is that when the Republican's do it they'll have hard support from the Bubba-ocracy demanding that we resist Obama's socialist fascist attempt to force his middle class tax cuts down "our throats."

(OK, maybe not the worst thing ... but still pretty bad.)

Great minds, indeed, Tom.

The House should hold off voting on this, because Republicans can vote for tax cuts for the poor and middle classes knowing that it will never pass the Senate.

I called it somewhere else when the Oompa Loompa went on his we'll do this on Sunday that someone in the Senate would say no. All that and I don't have my crystal ball back from repair yet. I'm like Carnak(?) the Magnificent with ma prognosticatin ways.

Nance: My hope is that the Democrats get bolder and more skilled at the parliamentary tactics and maneuvers that Republicans are such experts at. If Republicans can establish minority rule even after getting trounced in the 2008 election, Democrats will hopefully learn to do this too, if they lose the November election.

SW: I too saw the story on Sunday about Boehner's offer, and figured there had to be a catch. These flipflopping and bait-and-switch tactics are standard operating procedure for Republicans. I'll check out your post.

Erik: LOL. Let's hope the Democrats can go in for the kill.

Al: Bubba-ocracy -- good description. You make a good point at your site, about racist conservatives playing the "race card" card. Something they've been doing for years.

Randal: When they came for my car, I said nothing. Then, when they...

TC: I agree, they should hold off on the vote, for that exact reason.

Jess: Good call. Who needs a crystal ball when Republicans are so F%$#! predictable.

Boner took a ration of shit from other republicans, so he flip-flopped. Big surprise there, they'll eat each other alive in that camp. It's like the f'ing donner party.

Bee: Donner Party, couldn't happen to nicer people. Maybe we'll end up with fewer of them.
