If You Liked Dick Cheney, You’ll Love Newt Gingrich
It might be fun — in that sick sort of way — to have a pool on how many foreign quagmires we can dig ourselves into under President Gingrich. Dick Cheney and his adorable little sockpuppet were just getting warmed up with Afghanistan and Iraq.
That was a nice start. But what about Iran? Venezuela? North Korea? Syria? So many countries to liberate, so little time. Newt Gingrich’s foreign policy team is straight out of Dick Cheney’s inner circle. They include:
David Wurmser was one of the ringleaders of our Iraqi invasion. And now he’s Gingrich’s Middle East policy advisor.
James Woolsey is a former CIA director who’s fixated on invading Iran. He compares our failure to attack Iran with England’s appeasement of Nazi Germany in the 1930s. (See Godwin’s Law.) Woolsey’s other fixation is President Obama’s “political jihad promoting Islam around the world.”
Stephen Yates was part of Cheney’s national security team. He thinks China is the solution to America’s “enemy deprivation syndrome.” i.e. “You need some unifying enemy after the collapse of the Soviet Union.” Great. Let’s combine the best features of the Cold War and our current Crusade in the Middle East.
Let’s hope this week’s Not-Mitt-Romney will crash and burn soon.

Here's something I was pondering today...I think Syria will change regimes soon and something will happen with Iran one way or another within the next couple years. There's not going to be much action left for us in the middle east...are we going to have to stir up some trouble in Latin America now?
Oops, I should have read your piece closer. I see you mentioned that capital of evil, Venezuela.
Word has it they are looking at Canada hard also. What with the need to cut back expenses, it would certainly be cheaper to invade Toronto than Damascus.
J: If there are positive changes in Iran or Syria, Republicans will take credit for it. If those countries change for the worse, it'll be Obama's fault.
MRM: A capital idea! It would be so much cheaper to invade our commie neighbor to the north and make an example out of them.

It will always be about Oil

Erik: True. Some things never change.
I think we already stirred up enough trouble in S. America in the Seventies. I tend to agree with a fellow that frequents "Major Conflict" who believes Africa is where we will go next... it would be a good area for combining a religious crusade with a quest for natural resources.
But as MRMacrum suggests, maybe Canada had better be on its guard. There is plenty of oil up there.
Snave: You're right. With the help of the Lord's Resistance Army and a slew of global corporations, America will bring prosperity and family values to that primitive country.
