You Are What You Google

This article shows us what we Googled in 2011.  This past year’s top searches included Rebecca Black, Ryan Dunn, Casey Anthony, Battlefield 3, Adele, Steve Jobs and iPad2.

As one person in the article said:  “If this is the spirit of our time, then we are living in a sad time.  Google is showing us that we're, collectively, awful people.”  Well, at least we know why the mainstream “news” has so much celebrity fluff and so little news.

Here’s a link to Google’s Zeitgeist 2011:  How the world searched.

In other news:  A pro-adultery website has endorsed Newt Gingrich for President.  Ashley Madison, whose motto is “Life is short, have an affair” — has come out behind Gingrich.

And now this billboard adorns a highway in Pennsylvania.

Is it that we (they) Googled these things and FAUX responded with like stories, or is it the other way around?

And btw, who the deuce is Rebecca Black (I refuse to Google it)?

Like erik and probably most of your audience, I did not ever once google the top searches mentioned. Of the ones you mention I only know two and have an inking of a 3rd.

I google sports results, political results, and historical results. Guess that makes me a retro grouch who likes to say, "I told you so". Hmm....I can own that.

Erik: You were the only one? Tisk tisk.

jadedj: What, you've never heard of Rebecca Black? Where have you been?

I hadn't heard of her either until I saw the article yesterday.

MRM: Sports, politics, history -- what kind of boring search is that :)

Randal: And those medieval porn sites were pretty shocking.

Can't say I searched for any of these things. I know who Adele is only because she has a soulful voice and I have her music on the tiny music machine I carry around with me. I want the link to Erik's porn site though, you can never have enough good porn. Yes I am a girl and yes I'm extremely comfy with my sexuality thank you very much.
