Democrats Crossing Over to Vote for Santorum
Mitt Romney barely squeaked to a victory yesterday in his home state of Michigan. Michigan’s open primary allowed thousands of Democrats to vote for Rick Santorum. I don’t know how many — or if any — of the remaining states have an open primary.
Theoretically, the GOP would be toast if Santorum got the nomination. Obama’s re-election would be a slam dunk. Rick “Life Begins at Erection” Santorum and his cult following of fetus-worshipers and Biblehumps couldn’t possibly appeal to the general electorate. Put the boneheaded snake-handler at the top of the Republican ticket, and Obama will coast to victory.
Right???
But [shudder] what if this scheme backfired? It’s unlikely, but what if the unthinkable were to happen? Could Rick Santorum possibly get elected to the White House?

I seem to recall a lot of us on the left believing there was no way George W. Bush would ever get to the White House. He snuck in the first time, then actually got re-elected.
I don't believe anyone should misunderestimate the voters.
Yep. Past events tell us that it could happen. Mind-boggling, but true.
Those voters aren't these voters. 2000 was, in terms of demographics, quite awhile ago. I don't believe that either Willard or Rapture Rick can find a way around it.
If the community organizing, male Sarah Palin, s--stirring street agitator can become president ,I say we have reached a new low.
It's all moot since Quetzalcoatl will soon be here.
I did my part. I told a phone poll that I was a "moderate Santorum supporter".
Snave: Yup, the GW Bush specter comes to mind.
jadedj: Yes it could.
JR: I hope you're right about the changing demographics. Maybe some of those rightwing voters from 12 years ago died of various causes: forgot to breathe, looked up during a rainstorm and drowned...
Anonymous: I agree (assuming you're talking about Santorum).
Randal: Tell Quetzalcoatl to hurry up.
Dave: Ah yes, a moderate Santorum supporter. Meaning, a doctor who provides abortions should only be burned at the stake instead of crucified.
H/t to Snave. After Bush's re-election, I see the U.S. electorate as easily manipulated and liable to do anything. I hate to say that, but the evidence is unmistakable and mounting.
SW: I have to reluctantly agree. The electorate is too easily swayed and manipulated.
And I'd have to say that after a community organizer with little to no practical real world employment or political experience and with far-left Marxist in power behind him can get elected as President over an upstanding war hero, it really proves that voters are not only easily manipulated, but naive as well. Many voted for Obama BECAUSE he was Black just as exit polls showed. They couldn't possibly have voted for him because he had any experience or knowledge of the job and as he's been in it for three years, he's pretty much stayed on the Bush path as to TARP, auto co bailouts, Iraq. Only in healthcare "reform" in which he broker every campaign promise of transparency did he make any original decisions. And then they were disasterous and prove ever more expensive every day.
