FEMA: No More Disaster-Preparedness Funding for Flat-Earth Governors

YES.  Do It.  NOW!!!

No more taxpayer handouts to red state governors who forbid hazard-mitigation plans that address climate change. Florida and North Carolina are the biggest offenders that I can think of off hand.

In Florida, government employees are prohibited from using such phrases as climate change, global warming or sustainability.  North Carolina has a Koch/ALEC-dictated law which prohibits coastal planning officials from mentioning or even considering the anticipated rising of sea levels.

Keep it up and it'll cost you.

Among the ten states receiving the most FEMA disaster-preparedness funding (i.e. YOUR tax dollars), eight of these states are governed by Republicans.

Maybe the Koch Brothers will step in and make a huge multi-billion dollar donation every time a red state gets afflicted by droughts, floods, fires, hurricanes...

Perhaps it is their way to get an even bigger share of FEMA dollars. What they are really saying is:

"To hell with the people. Let them have their disasters, and let the dollars will roll in."

They will make a killing...literally!

Doubtful.

Thanks for the reporting,Tom.

NC, which used to be leaders in education and conservation in the U.S. are now the laughingstocks.

And proud of it (the Rethuglican-dominated General Assembly is always bragging about it).

Love you!

Jerry: Unfortunately, I think you're right. It goes hand in hand with the GOP's desire for sick people to just die already and get out of the way. If a bunch of people get killed in a natural disaster, that means fewer needy whiny people begging for a handout. And then the federal emergency dollars will roll in.

Cirze: It's really tragic about what happened to North Carolina. This should be a wakeup call for blue states not to get complacent and think "it can't happen here."

What's the expression?
"Hoisted by ones own petard"

Fitting no?
