The American People Do Not Want a Sleazy Two-Timing Speaker of the House

Not just one, but two affairs for Mr. Family Values. John Boehner received a 91% rating from the now-defunct Christian Coalition for his votes on “moral“ issues. He preaches the Gospel; he just doesn’t practice it.

Whatever respect you have or don't have for the National Enquirer and similar tabloids, their celebrity gossip tends to be pretty accurate. With so many prying “reporters” and in-your-face photographers, how could they not be?

Newt Gingrich, Bob Livingston, John Boehner — there seems to be a pattern here. Preach fire and brimstone, then get caught being one of those wicked sinners you were pretending not to hate.

Newt Gingrich resigned his position. Bob Livingston, his would-be replacement, stepped aside after Larry Flynt revealed that Livingston had had numerous affairs. What would Jesus do? What will Weepy the Orange do?

How are the teabaggers and Biblehumpers going to rationalize this?

They won't have to rationalize. It's ok if you're Republican. God forgives them because it's God's Own Party.

This story does make me want to weep, though.

First of all many of the Tea Party people are not biblethumpers alot of them are "moderate" being one of the popular liberal terms.

This is where we agree....somewhat that Republicans should just stick to be fiscally conservative and pro capitalism. This way if they have babies with mistresses and BJ's in the Oval Office they too can get a free pass and not have to feel that they not only they betrayed their families but their party too.
And who knows they may even get a
2nd term out of it instead of having to step down . Just ask Mark Sanford.

All he has to say is.."I'm a Christian and you liberal, communist, Atheist as picking on me because I am" if it gets worse confess his sin and then beg for christian forgiveness!

If Gingrich had done that, he would have stayed speaker.

Maybe when I called Boner "Bad Tan Limpy" I was inaccurate. I'll have to stick with Agent Orange.

Like Dave Dubya said.

Hey, if we wait for genuine contrition and an end to conservative Republican hypocrisy, we wait in vain. They've gotten away with their shabby activities and wildly obvious hypocrisy so well for so long, I'm sure they're convinced the are permanently immune from consequences.

Mr. Weepy joins the illustrious parade of those who show us the meaning of "family values" when the cameras are off.

Prominent gay-bashers show an unexpected affinity for same-sex relationships.

A study of pornography consumption shows it to be higher in "conservative" states.

Bible Belt states are strongly represented in lists of states with the highest rates of teenage pregnancy and divorce.

Do as I say, not… oh, never mind.

Ah the Weeper of the House will say he has asked for forgiveness from the Lawd and his wife and there is nothing to see here. All will be forgotten because, say it with me, it's ok if you are republican.

The teapublicans are all about the bible thumping Lisa, where have you been? Moderate my ass. If that was the case they would have replaced some republicans this last election, as it is they were targeting democrats now weren't they? Not very moderate if you ask me, considering the bullshit that they are supposedly made up of dems, reps and indies. This is the same tired old republican party with a new name, face it, come to grips with it and deal with it. You guys created that monster, now you get to try and tame it to put it back in the bottle. Much luck with that, no not really, you all deserve it.
Lisa, the difference between this and what you are talking about is the whole "family values" bullshit the right is always going on about. No one would care if they got a little sumtin sumtin on the side, it's the hypocrisy dahlink, the hypocrisy.

Talking out one side of the mouth about say, ooh "teh gheyz" are killing off traditional marriage and my marriage will be affected. No weeper of the house or Gingrich, the fact you fucked another woman while married is what screwed up your marriage not "teh gheyz" See what I did there with the hypocrisy thing?

The more taboo someone makes something, the more they are likely to engage in the activity? Maybe, maybe not... but that seems to be at play here.

I won't go so far as to say the Republican politicians (and voters) engage in violating more of these "taboos" than Democrats do, I just think the Republicans tend to get caught more often because they set themselves up for it so well.

When these people rally their base, they know what buttons they have to push in order to get votes, even if it means they must flat-out lie. One classic example is being an anti-gay/anti-lesbian crusader while actually being a closeted gay or lesbian. Another classic is vocally supporting the Ten Commandments being placed in all the schools and courthouses in America while at the same time violating commandments by supporting wars and death penalties, or maybe coveting their neighbor's wife, or philandering.

When they make these loud, adamant "values" proclamations about what they are against, it does put them a bit more under the microscope. I think the Dems tend to make far fewer such proclamations about "family values", and thus they tend to not be scrutinized as much.

The religious right wingers seem to, by and large, consider lefties a lost cause anyway. They seem to assume we are probably all profligate, immoral, philandering, etc. And because their pundits are vocal about it, and often, a large segment of the population is no longer surprised if a Democrat is caught in a sexual scandal.

For all these reasons, I don't think the left will be scrutinized as much as the right.

Meanwhile, our corporate media chooses to broadcast the most sensational stories that will attract the most viewers and keep networks' bottom lines in the black. And if Republican hypocrisy of this kind is something sensational, you can bet it will be in the news. (So no "liberal media" here... it's just a matter of the GOP guys basically kind of saying "Here is this chip on my shoulder, come knock it off now!")

So if they would just shut up, they wouldn't get caught so much or be under such scrutiny. But they can't shut up on these things, because they have to satisfy their base.

So as long as they want to keep getting caught lying, doing as they say nobody should do, sneaking around having affairs, etc.... it's more than fine with me.

Thanks for your comments everybody. My computer keyboard is now dysfunctional; one of our cats threw up on it. Monday will be the soonest I can replace it.

I can still log on to Blogger using the copy function, but I can't do any typing except when I'm at our neighborhood computer cafe. My posts and blog visits will probably be few and far between for the next few days.
