The republicans now have to decide, are they going to follow the tea party people over the cliff, or are they going to reverse direction and claw their way back to legitimacy?
Jerry, you raise a good question. I don't think this election will do that for them. Had it been a complete blowout in which the GOP lost control of both houses of Congress and the White House, plus a few governorships, then yes, maybe.
For one thing, there is no Republican leader in sight with the conviction clout and courage to attempt that kind of turnaround.
SWA, The turnaround will have to come from the "old guard" republicans, the ones who have ceded power to the teabaggers. They have to take back the power. If they don't, they will hand the 2016 election to the Democrats.
Robme was terribly ungracious tonight with that insincere concession. Few hours before KKKarl Rove said they shouldn't be conceding OH, there were reports that they hadn't even written a concession speech they were so convinced of a win. good thing is they have now assumed the circular firing squad position to say he wasn't conservative enough, Sandy took away his momentum, the Obama campaign was just full of lies blah blah blah. Thankfully we won't have to see him or his equally smarmy running mate and wife again for a while.
Binus, Allen West, Joe Walsh, Scott Brown and a few others got the boot and we got Alan Grayson back along with Warren, Baldwin etc etc so on. Snow snooki was fit to be tied when I saw her on one of the programs. that was worth watching just to see her all pissed off in another election.
Whew and double whew! See my blog, you took the word right out of my mouth. And, added to this sweetness is the possibility of leaning the Supremes to the left. That may be the most important result of this election IMO. YEAH!
Maybe it's just morning after hubris, but I predict that if obstructionism in Congress continues then 2014 will see the death of the Republican Party. It shouldn't take long to discover whether they're smart enough to realize this.
Jerry: The GOP will continue its civil war between the teatards and the more "mainstream" Republicans. I have no idea who will win.
SW: I think they'll be mired in this civil war for awhile: "Romney lost because he was too conservative" vs. "Romney lost because he wasn't a true believer."
Erik: They tried their best to hide their racism and suck up to Blacks and Hispanics. I don't think it'll ever work.
I think McConnell gave some sort of whiny speech last night. He needs to STFU but he never will.
Jerry: President Warren -- I like it.
Jess: Thanks for the update; I haven't checked the news yet this morning. I knew about Scott Brown losing but I didn't know that about Allen West or Joe Walsh. Good riddance. And I didn't know about Alan Grayson getting back in. That's excellent.
jadedj: I do hope Obama can replace a few of these rightwing justices. But who knows, they'll probably bring their canes and oxygen tanks to the Court with them, just so they can hold out 'til after 2016.
Dave: I think you're right. If the teabaggers keep obstructing everything, they'll get drummed out in 2014.
Most neo-cons & teabaggers said they had GOD on thier side for election 2012, Ha ha guess god hates republicans too, stick it up yer asses neo-cons, ya lost and that,s that!

It is a complete rejection of the tea party.

The GOP is SOL.
I know how you feel, Tom, white knuckles and all.

It looks like the results will find the Black and the Hispanic vote came through, which means: As we blogged a few years ago
The Republicans will once again figure out how to hide their hoods and nooses and get the Black and Hispanic Voters.
Until they can find a scare tactic to keep them away of course
And will have to do something about those new Voter ID laws they've been working so hard to pass
Erik
BTW
Now Mitch McConnel can shut up about the one term President
Erik

How does President Warren sound?

Oh and Jess...smarmy duo indeed!

Anonymous: My sentiments exactly.
Jim: Gimme Five!
