“Period of Testing” for Conservative Principles

You’ve gotta be kidding.  You almost have to feel sorry for John Boehner:  He’s being pulled in one direction by the voices of sanity and moderation; and the opposite direction by rightwing billionaires and their useful idiots who keep trying to drag us back to the Middle Ages.

Boehner received an open letter yesterday signed by about a hundred prominent conservatives, warning him not to “give in” to Democrats and moderates because Republicans are “entering into a period of testing.”  The letter talks about a “mandate to fight for conservative principles.”

Signers of the letter include the chairman of the American Conservative Union, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas (can you say “conflict of interest”), Foster “tell her to put an aspirin between her knees” Friess, direct-mail has-been Richard Viguerie and Phyllis “Hump Your Bible!  Again!” Schlafly.

“Entering into a period of testing?”  I believe a test was already administered last month.  Yes, it was…let’s see…it was administered on Tuesday, November 6th.

And the results of that test were…OK, here we are…your test results were:

You

FAILED!!!!!!

Boehner and most other Republican pols aren't that worried at this point public approval. They're sweating CYA and getting on the wrong side of the roughly 25 percent of hard core wing nuts in their precious base. They're especially afraid of Grover Norquist and probably the signers of that letter.

A few minutes ago on MSNBC, Chris Matthews showed poll results that only 25 percent approve of the GOP while 53 percent (IIRC) support Dems. That's stunning. Boehner needs to man up and tell the 25 percenters that if they want a party that can represent their interests going forward, they had better back off for now and let him make a deal, that the usual attempts at lying, bullying and hostage taking aren't working, just making him and congressional Republicans look worse to most American. But Boehner seems to be too afraid of losing his job to face down the fringers.

I guess Phyllis “Hump Your Bible! Again!” Schlafly is trying is raise her falling star, since Fox news only shows young conservative bimbo's, she has to show there are plenty of old conservative bimbos still around.

Maybe if she wore a halter top or something

Period of testing indeed. Fuckin' idiots. All the polls show that people want shit done, not political warfare at the expense of our country.

Hope everybody has their parachutes packed. These guys mean business and not the type that makes for a profit.

With any luck the current republican party will go the way of the Dodo.

JR: LOL. Never happen, unfortunately.

SW: Good points. The fringers are losing their clout and multi-billion dollar ad campaigns are losing their effectiveness. These trends will only get more pronounced because of shifting demographics and the public's growing unresponsiveness to 24/7 TV ads.

Erik: Phyllis Schlafly in a halter top, LOL.

Carlos: These politicians need to either start listening to the public (i.e. their employer) or get voted out and look for a real job.

Demeur: They deserve to go the way of the Dodo; can't happen soon enough.

SM: I'm getting it too, and it won't go away no matter how tightly I close my eyes.

Erik: With the huge number of people over 80, maybe that sour vision would sell. Phyllis Schlafly + Photoshop = ...

Anonymous: That's two directions. Ouch!
