Anonymous said...: Hearing all the Comments on the Torture report from the Conservatives made me think of the Cold War 40's-60's when the US was on the world stage and the UN lecturing the Communist and the 3rd world Countries on Freedom, Democracy, and how they treat their Citizens Then the rest of the world would point at Jim Crow and tell the US to clean it's own house first.

When they bombed that Church in Birmingham killing those four little girls going to Sunday School. The Conservatives would "blame" the Civil Rights leaders (not the Klan) for making the country look bad on the World Court "It'll ruin our effectiveness etc.,) and went as far to claim that the whole Civil Rights movement to fight Jim Crow was a communist run plot!

In fact that bombing got more world coverage then in the US.

Tom Harper said...: Erik: We've all been indoctrinated since grade school to think of America as this magic wonderland where nobody is ever arrested unjustly, we all have rights and can say whatever we think, etc. We might start making some progress as soon as we stop thinking we're better than everybody else.

Faceless, nameless, and ignored said...: I agree that we have been indoctrinated since birth that we live in some Disneyland like theme park, where we are led by infallible officials acting on behalf of their industrious constituency, who are off at their jobs knowing that they need not worry. Sage and thoughtful decisions are made and acted upon after ardent debate, in which the collective voices of their electors are heard in the hallowed halls of Washington, and then silenced by the louder and more vociferous personages such as: Monsanto, Lockheed, GM et.al.

And for our corporate brothers and sisters, for they are money and money is people with protected free speech and everything else great about America and our Constitution. It is good their protection and all important rights (read:, profit and the means to avoid taxation) that we must torture and teach the unwashed masses, religious fanatics (except our own religious right of course), and other dissidents to fear the great Satan, I mean the U.S.A. please don't report me to the militarily trained and armed thought police, better known as local police dept anywhere U.S.A.
