Swiftboat Veterans For Truth: They’re Baaack

They’re back, they’re sleazier than ever and they have a new name. “Swiftboat Veterans For Truth” has pretty much turned into a punch line. And “Swiftboat” has become a widely-used verb meaning “to slander; to indulge in character assassination.” Their new name is the Economic Freedom Fund.

Don’t let the bland name fool you. These are the same slippery pusbags that destroyed a Vietnam war veteran in 2004 just so George Jim Beam Bush could stay in the White House. Lift up the rock they’re hiding under and you’ll see the same slimy vermin slithering around underneath: Karl Rove, Tom DeLay and Texas multimillionaire Bob Perry. Perry has contributed $5 million to the Economic Freedom Fund; and he was the main financier behind the Swiftboat Chickenhawks.

John Kerry — who seems to be recovering from his 2004 spine-ectomy — has been lashing out at the Economic Freedom Fund.

He said they’re again resorting to “the politics of fear and smear. We’re not going to give them an ounce of daylight.”

Referring to his failure to fight back strongly enough in 2004, Kerry said “We thought the fact that the truth was out there was enough. Clearly it wasn’t.”

I.M. Dedd: Yup, it doesn't get any better than this.

Yellowdog Granny: A computer virus, LOL. I sure hope there'll be a Norton Antivirus or Spysweeper that's able to wipe 'em out.

These guys are ruining the Enlish language. Even George Orwell would blush at the way they use (or misuse) words such as "truth" and "freedom."

Carl: You're exactly right. Orwell's fiction was based on the word-twisting and shifting meanings of his day. But these neocon thugs are so far ahead of his concepts, his head would be spinning. Sort of like the difference between a Model T and a Ferrari.

I suppose economic freedom means more sweatshops abroad and lowering minimum wage laws domestically. Oh, for good measure, I bet the fund promotes bonuses for CEOs just for the heck of it and gouging at the gas pump. I'm still shaking my head in disbelief over this one. It's comical.

Ricardo: Yup, that's exactly what they mean by economic freedom. Sweatshops, reduced minimum wage, tax cuts and bonuses for that wealthiest 1% of the population -- just what God intended.

Nothing could do more damage to Kerry than his own lackluster campaign -- "I voted for the Iraq supplemental funding bill before I voted against it." Americans voted for Bush because he was the better candididate, plain and simple. Get over it!

Donald: It’s true that Kerry ran the most inept political campaign in our history (unless Dukakis’ campaign was worse). But the reason so many Democratic lawmakers “voted for the war before they voted against it” was that they were lied to by Bush and his puppetmasters. They still should have voted against the war from the getgo, instead of falling for Bush’s sleazy sales pitch. I didn’t think much of Kerry; he was just the lesser of 2 evils.

“Get over it.” Oooohhh, that’s original. Let me write that down.
