Happy Easter — and a Question
This article is titled: “Why Are Pedophilia-Hiding, Child-Abusing Church Fathers Allowed to Write Laws About Women's Bodies?”
Well?
I can’t come up with an answer to that one. Can you?
Or maybe there isn’t an answer. Maybe it’s — as Jon Stewart would say — a “moment of Zen.” You could think of it as a koan, like “what is the sound of one hand clapping?”
What say you?

Religion was made up by and enforced by men, women were silenced in the church between 300 and 500 AD, since then man has controlled all rights and laws pertaining to the "inferior" women.
In a News Statement the other day the Catholic Church compared the criticism of the Pope to the harassment of the Jews, funny from the Church that supported Fascism, Slavery, and the Holocaust.
I never could understand how the Church refuses communion to politicians like Nancy Pelosi because she supports Abortion but not the Catholic politicians who support the death penalty or are anti poor and civil rights, other issues the Church is supposedly strong about?
Erik
It's really not that complicated. Man was created in the image of God. God has control over the universe, and is a man. See?
God created man in his own image, that is one butt ugly god.
Not to mention full of frijoles.
Does a bear shit in the woods?
Yeah, that's about all there is to it. All those sorry f'ers need to be locked up.
Bee, if a bear shits in the woods, and nobody is around...does it stink?
they're gay. It's coming out now.
Pedohilia hiding, child abusing church fathers are allowed to write laws about women's bodies because millions of people send them a portion of their hard earned money in hoes they are buying an eternity in an afterlife where pedophiles and child abusers aren't really welcomed.
Teeluck: That sounds about right.
Erik: I think there was a huge outcry from some Jewish organizations when the Vatican made that comparison. I guess as long as a priest is anti-abortion, he can do anything else and get away with it.
jadedj: LOL. OK, I get it now.
Holte: He wins the Ugly God Contest.
Bee: Damn right, and throw the key away.
Anon.: If they're gay, they can do it with other grownups instead of children.
Lew: I guess that's something they can hope for.
Pollitt makes a compelling case, and her point is well taken.
To answer your question, Tom, it's because the Catholic hierarchy presumably speaks for millions of people on matters involving ethics and morals. Obviously, given the revelations of the past 20 years or so, those clerics don't come to the discussion with clean hands, but they still presumably speak for millions.
It's reasonable to tell them to put their own house in order before telling others how to walk a chalk line. I'm sure the clerics would respond that their institution doesn't have to be perfect for them to work against (what they deem) murder.
It's clear many way up in the Catholic church are out of touch, in denial and not responding very sensibly and realistically to a pervasive crisis. And unfortunately for all Catholics, their pope doesn't seem to be capable of the decisive, enlightened leadership the situation calls for.
Erik, a couple thousand or more Catholic priests were imprisoned at Dachau for defying the Nazis. Many died of disease and injuries. Some were tortured and executed. Other individual priests across Europe did things to help Jews and others the Nazis were after. Some Jews were given sanctuary in Vatican City.
One priest who defied the Nazis, The Rev. Bernhard Lichtenberg, has been beatified, meaning he's on his way to being made a saint.
The pope of that time failed to oppose the Nazis and Fascists head on, as I think he should have. I'm not sure that lapse nullifies the efforts, risks and sacrifices of Catholic clerics who did the right thing. I don't think it's a simple matter of black and white.
Answer: Because conservative old white dudes love nothing more than dictating moral standards for everyone other than themselves. Very Republican of them, I'd say.
It is not unusaul for people in power to assume they know what is best for someone else. Happens all the time in religion and government.
The church 'writes laws'? Really?
