Defeat for Republicans — Victory for America
Democrats have finally — finally!! — gotten past that gigantic speed bump in the Senate. It’s the same speed bump — comprised of forty buckets of excrement — that almost blocked health care reform and financial reform.
This time, Mount Pusmore was blocking unemployment benefits for two and a half million Americans. New Democratic Senator Carte Goodwin (replacing Robert Byrd) was just sworn in today, and almost immediately another vote was held. Sixty Democrats voted for America. Forty Republicans voted for — uhh, well, whatever it is they’re for.
After months of shitting all over working Americans, the GOP finally lost this round.
Max Baucus stated the obvious:
“This bill is about jobs because unemployment insurance goes to people who will spend it immediately. That would increase economic demand. And that would help support our fragile economic recovery.”
For most people, that’s a no-brainer. But explaining that to a Republican is like trying to teach advanced calculus to a slow 5-year-old.

I certainly hope voters remember who the party of go fuck yourselves are.
It's so good the vampires are finally seen for what they are.
Tom, Republicans know what it's about. They know extending unemployment will help with the recovery, in addition being the decent, desperately needed thing to do.
Republicans don't want to help the recovery along. They don't want to see more and more people getting back to work. They don't want to ease hardship and desperation. They cynically and with fiendish selfishness want people hurting, desperate and angry in November. They want that all the way to 2012 if they can manage it. It's all because they want total power back -- House, Senate and White House. They want to make Obama a failed president and make it look like even with a majority Democrats can't get anything done. They also want to make people believe government can't get anything done.
That is Republicans' policy, their program, their plan for America. It's so selfish and cruel it's evil. It's tantamount to treason, and it's all they have to offer.
All but bend over Nelson for the Dems.
Time they took him out back and put him down.......
Great. Now there will be less money to create jobs because of these lazy bums and you know they aren't going to use this scratch to pay bills and feed their families, but purchase weed and booze.
3,2,1 Repubs take credit when they go back to their districts for the speechifying during their campaigns. You know it will happen, much like it did with HCR.
The typical midterm swing of power could be turned into an unprecedented shift towards Democrats if they have the sense to capitalize on Republican dishonesty and cruelty...If they have the sense.
I was talking to a Conservative friend about this a few days ago. I told him he'd taken advantage of Unemployment benefits a few times so why hold it out on everybody else?
He admitted he was mixed on this but the deficient was too large and we have to start somewhere.
I countered if the deficient is such a problem then why are the Republican's still screaming for additional tax breaks on business and the rich with no plan to pay for it?
Those of us who have been on Unemployment know it's not much, it will probably take care of some basics and necessities. But stem the foreclosures, stop the credit defaults? No way, only full gainful employment MAY do that.
As I told my friend: I believe these people want to work, I believe they want to rebuilt their savings, plan their retirements and increase their quality of life. Lets throw them this bone to help them out.

Tom, I had an excellent comment planned, but SW presented it perfectly.
Erik, tell your friend that the deficit should be reduced on the backs of those who caused it, Wall Street, not those who are its victims.
Hopefully Americans will see who was playing politics with their livelihood. But I doubt it.
Tim: Or maybe a lot of voters have enjoyed getting fucked by Republicans and they'll vote to keep their abusers in office. "Bend over Nelson" LOL.
SW: That's exactly it; they want the economic recovery to falter, and they know putting money into unemployed people's pockets will help. Plus they enjoy socking it to those lowly unemployed layabouts anyway.
Randal: At least the booze and weed industries will thrive.
Jess: Too many gullible voters will fall for the Republican speeches about the deficit.
Dave: "if the Democrats have the sense to capitalize on Republican dishonesty and cruelty" -- yes, if only.
Erik: So this person has been on unemployment before, but now he's "mixed" about it because of the deficit -- hope you told him off good :)
TC: Exactly; reduce the deficit on the backs of the people who caused it. Unfortunately, those are the people with all the clout.
Lew: I doubt it too.
Tom, Tom Cat
This is what the conservatives are like today. I can argue with him, he will back down and realize I have a point. Then 24 hours later he's back spouting the same rhetoric as before as if he never heard a work I said.
He's not the only one I know like that. What do they do, go home watch fox news and get re-programmed or something like that?
As we go to press here, I was hearing the Republicans decided to enforce a rule not to vote on the unemployment bill for 30 hours after closure of a filibuster - a rule that has been waved many times previously.
Fighting to the end
Erik
