Get Money Out
Get Money Out is an online petition drive to get money out of politics. Their goal is a constitutional amendment that will prohibit all people, and all business entities of any type, from contributing money — directly or indirectly — to any candidate for federal office.
It’ll be an uphill battle. (How’s that for an understatement?) But they’re hoping that with enough signatures, this can become a major issue for the 2012 elections.
About 80% of Americans are against the Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling which opened the floodgates to unlimited “campaign contributions” (this used to be called bribery) to politicians. This is one issue that cuts across all party lines and socioeconomic groups.
Hope you’ll check out their site and sign the petition.

Money, heh heh, out of, chortle wheez, politics, chuckle.
Obviously, money is needed to campaign for federal office. While the petition does not say so, I assume the financing of an election would come from the federal government. Yes?
Good luck with this. The whores have been at the trough so long they know nothing else and aren't going to change anything any time soon.
Trying to control me again! Wont let me pay for someone to make signs for me? Control Freaks. I also don't want more taxes used for politicians... ever closer to big brother.
Jerry when Carter ran for office it was financed by the taxpayers (you know that little line on your tax form that said do you want $2 to go for federal elections?). Now that corporations are people - game over.
Why should you have more influence in the government just because you have more money?
Oh, so you admit that you will make it illegal for me to pay someone to make political signs. Because I'm so evil right?
People usually have more money because they produce something that you are willing to pay for or government takes it away and gives it to their cronies.
Why should someone be able to vote to confiscate another persons rights or property?
Is there anyone out there to rid me of these stoopit trolls I am finding everywhere these days? Tom, you made a funny with getting money out of politics like it could ever happen. signed the petition anyway and forwarded it to like minded individuals. Maybe if enough of us scream about it, we will get what we want like the pugs do with their screaming. Oh and funny captcha, repalin, for me with this post.
Just like to show how you guys are sooo much like Hitler, Stalin, Chavez, Mao, Putin, Castro, etc. Sound too extreme? Don't worry, I am only comparing in regards to the 1st Amendment. They all were actually able to silence their opposition. You just want to.
Funny, my verification word is "weilifti" it should be "weiriti".
You didn't answer the question, Jeannie.
All the Leftist propaganda doesn't influence me.
Randal: I knew this would generate some laughter.
Jerry: I'm not sure. The website leaves out a lot. But it's a start.
Demeur: I hope there'll be enough signatures to bring this issue into the spotlight; whatever good that'll do.
Jeannie: This post is about corporations and wealthy individuals purchasing elections right out from under the other 99% of the population; and you're talking about yard signs.
[sigh]
Jerry: Good question. Check out her non-answer.
Jeannie: If you have more money, bully for you. Buy a house that's five times bigger than any other house in the neighborhood. Buy a Ferrari. Whatever. But you DON'T have the right -- ethically and morally if not legally -- to have more political influence than your neighbors.
Jess: Who needs the Daily Show and the Colbert Report when we have blog trolls that are even funnier.
Jeannie: Google "Godwin's Law" to find out why you've lost this argument.
Jerry: Sit tight, she's working on her next quote dump.
You get what you vote for.
Yes, control freaks hate that comparison but I will concede that most Lefties stop at controling everyone else democratically, some like SCOTUS to do it.
The sign is the same concept and law. The issue is how are you going to stop me from paying someone else to put up signs, or buy ads.
You want to limit what kind of speech. Where do you want to draw the line? I can talk, hopefully. I can make a sign. Can I make many signs and hand them out? Can I pay someone else to make them? If yes, then I can pay for ads too.
So is it fair that I get up off my arse and talk to the mayor but my neightbor doesn't care to?
Do you have an example of somebody buying elections besides the unions controling CA by spending BILLIONS?
"Just like to show how you guys are sooo much like Hitler, Stalin, Chavez, Mao, Putin, Castro, etc. Sound too extreme? Don't worry, I am only comparing in regards to the 1st Amendment. They all were actually able to silence their opposition. You just want to."
Please tell me you are really not this stupid and you don't actually leave the house in the morning to go anywhere. I would be concerned you might hurt yourself in the process. 1st amendment is GOVERNMENT shutting you up, not a buncha durty libruls on a fuckin blog. I know this probably comes as a shock to your system, given you probably get yer news from Rush and Hannity and the like but you can go look it up. Now begone before some of us start asking Tom to moderate again and then you will be gone.
Jeannie/Lisa trolled,

Stupid, stupid broad, don't forget Lech Walesa in your list. He's coming to New York to join us. And as we all know, he's the biggest damn Communist who ever lived.
Let's see..... dogmas more important than truth, slogans for every occasion, vicious reactions to any and all criticisms, and failure. WHO is it, exactly, who is "just like Stalin?"

Jolly-just those that want to limit free speech. I am trying to see if you all understand what you are saying. In other words, the unintended consequences. The "control freaks hate that comparison but I will concede that most Lefties stop at controling everyone else democratically, some like SCOTUS to do it."
The guys on the list did it undemocratically. I am trying to figure out where your limits are.
Because if you say corporations or businesses or whomever you hate today are not allowed to give $ to someone, they give it to someone else who is allowed to.
I think you guys are saying that I personally would not be allowed to give $ to a candidate. So what if I decide to pay for advertising instead. I think you are saying you want that illegal too.
So I can't buy advertising that says how great USA is? And I think person x does too?
Sounds like Jeannie is in the advertising business.
Engineer. That is why I try to be concise in my understanding of what you are saying.
"Concise" -- ROTHLMAO!!! Leaving comment after comment after comment, some of these comments being a mile long -- that's your idea of "concise?"
I'd hate to see you when you get longwinded.
Isn't "red car" more concise than "car" if I am looking for a particular car?
I think you were looking for the word "precise," meaning exact, specific. "Concise" means brief, short and to the point, which you are decidedly, uh, not.
Arent most of my comments only about a dozen words?
Just like most citizens I'am mad as hell how our congresss/ senate/ whitehouse has been bought out.
