Are You Better Off Than You Were Four Years Ago? YES
Yes, the economy sucks. Millions of people are frantically searching for work. Millions more have been out of work so long they’ve given up even looking.
But while we’re fuming over the high unemployment rate and the slo-o-o-ow recovery, let’s take a look at some headlines from September 2008:
STOCK SHOCK FELT ROUND THE WORLD. Gets ‘nasty’ as Lehman tanks, Merrill vanishes, AIG wobbles [New York Daily News, September 16, 2008]
One day on the brink On Wednesday, it seemed U.S. economy might collapse [St. Louis Post-Dispatch, September 21, 2008]
‘Great Depression’ closer than U.S. admits, report finds [Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, September 27, 2008]
Developers bend under housing meltdown [Colorado Springs Gazette, September 27, 2008]
Depression seen possible [Florida News-Press, September 27, 2008]
Wall Street Meltdown Continues [CNN, September 17, 2008]
Behind Closed Doors, Warnings of Calamity [The New York Times, September 20, 2008]
Have you seen ANY recent news headlines that were anywhere near this dire and ominous?
Didn’t think so.
YES, you ARE better off now than you were four years ago.

OK I am better off, but I would still like to know why the Wall Street finance companies seemed to recovered and my 401K is still tanked!
Erik
Human nature being as it is, people get over "whew, that was a close one" pretty quickly. So, the idea things are a lot less awful than they could be doesn't impress for long. Things move quickly along to "So, what have you done for me lately?"
Erik, a key component of Wall Street's success is that it's carefully configured to ensure banksters and brokers make lots of money off of investors, whether those investors win, lose or tread water.
Thank you Dubya and TARP!
Can't say that I'm better off but considering their plan to go back to Bush on steroids I'll stay the course and hope we can get rid of some more of "No" party.
Mr. C: What you said.
Jess: Sorry, the link didn't work. It must have been God's will so I won't get corrupted by leftist propaganda :)
Erik: Because Wall Street owns Congress and you don't.
SW: That's true, as soon as the dire emergency has passed, everyone starts nitpicking about "why can't this happen faster?"
Randal: No no, that's Thank You Wall Street for creating jobs and keeping America free.
Demeur: We're not out of the woods yet, but we're on the path that will lead us out of the woods. Romney wants to lead us back into the woods.
Tom here is the link again
