Mitt Romney Shut The Fuck Up

We’re in the middle of a diplomatic crisis in the Middle East, and Mitt Romney sees it as just another opportunity to be a demagogue.

As you know, the American diplomatic missions in Egypt and Libya were attacked.  Four people were killed, including the United States ambassador to Libya.

Most people would see this as a tragedy; an urgent crisis.  Mitt Romney sees it as another chance to jump in front of the cameras and score points against Obama.  Right in the middle of a crisis — uh, not the best time for potshots and backseat driving.

If a fire department was desperately trying to put out a raging fire, Mitt Romney would come up behind them and start shouting “Don’t you have any more manpower?  How come it took you so long to get here?  You need three more people to go over to the other side of that building.  Well, what are you waiting for?”

Or you’re stuck in the traffic jam from Hell and Mitt Romney is in the back seat:  “I told you to take Exit 14-A, but you didn’t listen.  And here we are.  Just great.  Now what are we gonna do?  Look out, that red pickup is trying to cut in front of you.  Don’t let him!  See if you can get over to the right lane so we can take that next exit.  Well, come on!”

While the Obama Administration was in the thick of this tragedy in the Middle East, Romney chimed in with:

“It's a terrible course for America to stand in apology for our values.  It's never too early for the U.S. government to condemn attacks on Americans and defend our values. ... When our grounds are being attacked, being breached, the first response of the United States must be outrage. They clearly sent mixed messages to the world.  The statement that came from the administration—and the embassy is the administration—the statement that came from the administration was a statement which is akin to apology. And I think was a severe miscalculation.”

[ahem] notice the boldface text above:  “mixed messages.”

WTF???  “Mixed messages” — coming from the person who’s done more flipflops than all the world’s acrobats put together?!?

Mitt Romney shut the fuck up.  Go back to your car elevator, or one of your vacation homes, or something.  Just go.

Oh, I suppose Romney would prefer that the U.S. embassy over there issue an in-your-face statement saying something inflammatory, so maybe a few more Americans would get killed.

FWIW, I think the embassy statement should've condemned the senseless murder of people who had nothing to do with offensive movie or video. Still, I doubt the president sat down and dictated the statement that was issued -- something Romney knows very well. He just comes off looking smaller and more desperate.

At least you don't have to act. Stupidity comes as naturally to you as breathing does to the rest of us.

SW: You're right, Romney looks smaller and more desperate every time he lashes out with one of his clueless one-liners.

Demeur: I think he's already shot both feet and every other appendage multiple times. I just hope the voters start noticing.

JR: LOL.

Mr. C: Agreed.

jadedj: Yup, a big STFU to both of them.

Jess: Romney is smart when it comes to making money, especially at other people's expense. But in every other way, he's dumber than dirt.

Dave: "United We Stand" is on hold until the next Republican gets elected to the White House.

I think what everyone is missing:

- Romney missed the entire timeline of events, so his statements and criticism mean absolutely nothing. In context, they sound fucking nuts.
- The WH did criticize the attacks.
- The WH did not apologize for anything.
- The statement released by the Embassy was smart, preemptive, strategic, and necessary in light of the Muslim nutjobs they live amongst.
- Those "values" Romney talked about are “values” that allow people to say and do caustic, irresponsible things without criticism or other repercussions. You know, kinda like he did with that whole birth control thing: "not words I would've used." Freedom of speech does not equal freedom to speak without consequences. If the idiot in California had been making movies criticizing Romney’s whackjob of a religion, I'm sure he'd be singing another tune, not whiling away the time defending American “values.”

Romney’s statements were stupid, contextually irrelevant, and indicative of his desperation to score points in his vain attempt to convince people he can think smartly on his feet.

I hope the motherfucker keeps running his mouth from now until November.

Carlos: Good rundown on the sequence of events. When I wrote the post I wasn't sure of the exact timeline. I was mostly just pissed that Romney would come barging in right in the middle of an unfolding tragedy and delicate negotiations, and start fingerpointing and backseat driving. If that's his level of professionalism, he isn't qualified to be a dog catcher, let alone President of the United States.

Concur, Tom. I had the same initial reaction. Wow. What a moron. When I became aware of the actual sequence of events, it was even more amazing. Romney and his handlers' piss-poor judgment was just compounded. :-)
