West Point Issues Terrorist Warning
This warning comes from West Point’s Combating Terrorism Center (CTC). When America’s top military academy issues a terrorist warning, you’d expect conservatives to snap to attention and get right on it. However:
The Far Right is not only unconcerned with this terrorist warning — they’re actually hostile to it. And why would that be? Because the potential terrorists are not swarthy foreigners named Hassan Abdul al Osama el-Habib. The West Point report is warning us about America’s own homegrown crop of racist inbred gun-toting hate-spewing wackjobs. In other words: “The dramatic rise in the number of attacks and violent plots originating from individuals and groups who self-identify with the far-right of American politics.”
Aw come on, these aren’t terrorists. They’re Patriots.
The report is titled “Challengers from the Sidelines: Understanding America's Violent Far-Right.” And the report specifically mentions Christian Fundamentalists, Neo-Nazis, violent anti-abortionists and militia movements.
Again, this warning comes from West Point, and not some gang of tree-hugging flag-burners who hate America.
But this hasn’t stopped the Far Right mouthbreathing community from lashing out at West Point’s warning. Neo-Nazi blogger Pamela Geller wrote:
“This is another appalling attempt to demonize loyal Americans and whitewash the Islamic threat. West Point probably is working on orders from higher ups. Or else it has bought into the dominant PC culture.”
A Republican congressional staffer wrote:
“If the Defense Department is looking for places to cut spending, this junk study is ground zero. Shouldn’t the Combating Terrorism Center be combating radical Islam around the globe instead of perpetuating the left’s myth that right-wingers are terrorists?”
And from the National Review:
“The world is beset by terrorists—witness the American hostages taken in Algeria this week—but portions of our federal government continue to obsess about alleged home-grown threats from the ‘far right.’”
[sigh]

Oh the right wing just has their jocks in wads over the fact that the West Point/Notre Dame dance can FINALLY be held "out" in the open this year.
This is the pot calling the kettle black. I don't think it's the Feds that are obsessing.
I was tortured for almost 3 years by the FBI and their friends only
because 85 years old man, Roland Sibens(chicago) convinced them that I
am a terrorist. I was tortured for working on my prosthetic legs in
the basement. I done absolutely nothing illegal or wrong. They thought
that in theory it is possible to hide bomb in them. They saw an
opportunity to get famous, so they were trying to torture me till I
sign their insane story. They tortured me using more than 100
different torturing methods and trust to me waterboarding is not how
they torture nowadays. I dont know where to find justice.
I think that after 9/11 things got out of control. Freedom fighters
became tyrants. In 1945, most Germans had an opportunity to learn about Nazis death
camps. I hope that one day American citizens will get chance to learn about people
like me, who were tortured with no reason for years.
Anonymous: The West Point/Notre Dame dance, don't wanna miss that one.
jadedj: Nope, it's the hair-trigger KKK/Fundamentalist types who are obsessing.
Anonymous: Shit! I hope you've reported this. The post-9/11 hysteria has been very similar to the paranoia in Germany that led to the concentration camps. I hope we've learned something, but probably not.
Glad to see that an Official Government study has taken over from Morris Dees and the Southern Poverty Law Center who were always considered the leading monitors of right wing, white supremacist and, terrorist activity.
Conservatives, even before they merged with the South were tolerant of Groups like the Klan especially after they included more religious rhetoric in their agenda.
Never mind this President has gotten more death treats then all the others combined and made gun sales rich from rumors.
This is why Timothy McVeigh was treated like a freak exception to the war on terror (as I remember there is still one more co conspirator that was never caught)
Erik
That is why Timothy
There is no end to their selfish idiocy. I'm tempted to say it's unbelievable, but in fact it fits the far right's M.O. perfectly.
Erik: I would have thought a study by West Point would have more credibility among conservatives than a study from the Southern Poverty Law Center. I should have remembered: rightwingers will eat their own if they hear something that contradicts their sacred beliefs.
SW: I agree, it's unbelievable even though it fits their standard M.O.
