FX renews The Americans for a Fourth Season
YAAAYYY!!!
The Americans WILL be back next year for at least one more season. (The Season 3 finale will be next Wednesday at 10 p.m.) The show has averaged about one million viewers per episode this season. I was sure it would get the axe because of the rock-bottom ratings.
Nick Grad, president of original programming for FX Networks, said:
“Remarkably, this season of ‘The Americans’ has achieved even greater acclaim than that of its first two seasons. The series has cemented its status with critics as television’s best current drama and arguably the best show on TV, and we couldn’t agree more.”
Ditto.

I love this show, but I've been pigging on NetFlix with it. We have to wait months, since we got rid of our cable a couple of years ago.
The main characters are basically despicable, but they have a soft and human side...albeit to a lesser degree than their murderous procliities. Those opposing traits have kept me interested in the story...not to mention that it is an unusual plot line.
Best show on TV? Not so sure I agree with that.
I watched a few episodes of this but I cannot get into it at all. Same time they renew this, Justified just finished the series finale. I get since Elmore Leonard died, they don't have him to write anymore but they should have found new writers to keep that show going. Not to worry though, I discovered Vikings on the history channel last season and I am enjoying that in lieu of Justified :)

jadedj: I agree that none of the characters are likeable; most of them are coldblooded killers who put "the cause" Uber Alles. In a sense that makes it even more difficult to create such incredible suspense when you don't even care about most of the people. Martha, Paige and Henry are about the only exceptions I can think of off hand, since they're caught in the middle and aren't "in the life" by choice.
Jess: I'm just the opposite; I wanted to like Justified but somehow it just didn't click for me. The ingredients were there but they didn't gel; or something. Same with The Vikings. But I loved the Hatfields and McCoys miniseries on that same channel 3 years ago.
Jim: Great news indeed. I'm grateful it didn't get canceled because of low ratings.
