Investigate Darrell Issa

Darrell Issa’s contrived IRS “scandal” was a manufactured “crisis” from the beginning — nothing more than a smoke-and-mirrors gimmick to vilify Obama and rally the GOP base.

From the beginning, it was clear that the IRS was targeting ANY non-profit organization whose application for tax-exempt status included political buzzwords from the left OR right.  Darrell Issa cherry-picked the cases where a group using “Patriot” or “Tea Party” was questioned about why their political activity should be subsidized by taxpayers.  He cleverly omitted the fact that liberal non-profit groups asked the same questions by the IRS if they used references to “green” and other liberal buzzwords.

Elijah Cummings, the senior Democrat on the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee, recently publicized this fact — that the IRS was auditing non-profit groups of all political persuasions, not just conservative groups.  Darrell Issa had a public tantrum when his smoke and mirrors “scandal” came unraveled in front of God and everybody.

What else did you expect from a car thief, arsonist and insurance fraudster?

As slippery as Darrell Issa’s fake IRS “scandal” was, it’s been a successful fundraising gimmick.  During the second quarter of this year, he raised $737,109.  Most of these contributions were inspired by Issa’s scary IRS imagery.

If you think the House Ethics Committee should investigate Darrell Issa’s conduct, please sign this petition.

The purpose of the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee is NOT to conjure up phony scandals so politicians can extort larger campaign contributions from gullible constituents.

Darrell Issa needs to be censured — at the very least — for his sleazy behavior.

How to Save the Post Office

As you know, the U.S. Postal Service is about to lay off thousands of workers and/or eliminate some of its services.  And if you listen to the mainstream “media” you probably think the Post Office is in such dire straits because of corrupt unions, or because they’re all just a bunch of faceless inefficient government bureaucrats who don’t care.

FACT:  The Post Office is drowning in red ink because of the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act

Here’s another link.

This law was passed at the end of 2006 by the lame duck Republican Congress.  Under this law, the Post Office was required to pre-fund the health care benefits of all retirees over the next 75 years.  And these huge payments had to be made during a ten-year period.

No other government agency — and no private company — is required to do anything remotely similar to this.  As of this past June, the U.S. Postal Service had a deficit of $19.5 billion.  At that same time, the Postal Service had already made pre-payments of $20.95 billion, as required by the above-mentioned Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act.

If that law hadn’t been passed, the Post Office would have a surplus of almost $1.5 billion.

And now, to fix the problem:  Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA) has introduced a bill that would allow the Post Office to spend more of its own funds to pay down its deficit.  This bill is bipartisan, with 193 co-sponsors so far.  This is the sensible intelligent solution — for Congress to un-create the problem that it created five years ago.

Or there’s the teatard solution:  Darrell Issa (R—Car Thief) is pushing to lay off thousands of postal workers and break the back of the USPS Union.  Figures.

Darrell Issa: “The American Lobbyists Have Spoken”

Darrell Issa (R—Sleazebag) has been publicly soliciting advice from business owners on which government regulations are the most cumbersome and job-killing. He has a website where anyone can give the name of their business and which regulations they’d like eliminated.

He’s been blathering all over the news about the responses he’s gotten from the nation’s “job creators,” “the backbone of this great nation” — The American People™. And now it turns out most of these responses were from lobbyists.

He hasn’t gotten a single response from any of the country’s ten largest publicly owned companies, nor from any of the thirty largest job creators.

In other Republican tinfoil hattery (or is that a redundancy?), Eric Cantor (R—Lopsided Sneer) said America’s top priority in Egypt is to “stop the spread of radical Islam.”

If the United States is supposed to stop radical Islam from spreading in Egypt, then using that same “logic,” it’s up to Egypt to clamp down on Pat Robertson and James Dobson and other radical “Christian” snakehandlers in this country.

Then again, maybe this is exactly why radical Islam has such a huge appeal in the Middle East. After decades of being ruled by hand-picked American dictators and being generally treated like pawns on a chessboard, people might be more likely to get swept up in the throes of religion.

Loudmouth American ignoramuses are making radical Islam more likely to spread when they tell desperate Egyptians what kind of government or religion they can have. But try explaining that kind of simple cause-and-effect sequence to a Republican.

With Eric Cantor’s grasp of cause and effect, he probably thinks rain is caused by wet sidewalks.
