Take Away Social Security?!? That’s OUR Money!!!
When it comes to taxes — no matter how necessary they might be — the teabaggers always scream “That’s OUR money, not the government’s money. Give it back to The People who EARNED it!”
And yet these same people just can’t wait to get rid of Social Security, which is also — belaboring the obvious here — OUR money. This point was made by Minnesota state Sen. Tarryl Clark, who’s running against Michele Bachmann this November. Godspeed! You go girl!
She said:
“Michele Bachmann has said that Americans need to be weaned off Social Security and Medicare. Well, I’ve now been paying into Social Security since I was a teenager — so for about 25 or 30 years — seems to me that’s my money. Why on earth does she want to take away our money? It’s money that we’ve worked hard for, and it’s money that’s supposed to be there for our retirement. Well, why would she want to do that? It is the opposite of what I think people are mad about. We should be making sure that the government is going to have it be solvent and have it be available for us, instead of having people like Michele threatening to get rid of it.”
Excellent point. This is something the Democrats might want to bring into the spotlight during the next few months. That is, in case they actually care about winning this November.

The bastard's on the Right, whatever name they want to be called, have been trying to get rid of Social Security since it's inception. Goldwater is the first one who got my attention. He was a freaken loon. After Johnson and the great Society, they went under the radar for a while. Then the Goldwater Incarnate came to pass and that was the start of all that's bad today. Since 1964 I remember Ronnie trying to kill social security. He went bat shit over Johnson's Medicade and Medicare. Yeah Tom, Bachmann is in the same mold.
But Tom where will Wall Street get it's next fix of gambling money? Lem me see they pissed away all our mortgage money, borrowed from us with TARP and our tax dollars. What's left to rob? Oh, wouldn't that be our retirement (Social Security,IRAs,401Ks and the like)?
This whole thing was like a gold rush of the 21 century only they found out there was no gold in them there hills only a promise and we all bought it.
Gee, I wish MY social security money could go to a freedom fighter like Bachmann or to real Americans like Wall Street.
I'd feel so much safer, secure in all that freedom that comes with impoverishment.
Crazy eyes has said ALL she wants to do if the GOopers win back the house is concentrate on investigations and nothing else. No working for the people, just meetings meetings and more meetings. I don't know about you guys but I HATE meetings, especially when they last 5 maybe 10 minutes and nothing is said EVER.
Soc Sec, is the third rail, let them touch it and get burned.
They hate SS but they also know it is too entrenched to be touched. The best thing they could hope for is the old Bush plan to have Wall Street raid it and handle the funds much like Insurance Companies have raided Medicare.
Can you Imagine your SS tied up to the Performance Like Enron, Worldcom, Bernie Madoff, or those derivatives like AIG, Morgan, and Bear Sterns?
They are waiting in the wings for 2012, Trust me!
Also I must say after seeing Sen. Clark I feel better about her chances about beating Bachmann, as much as I hate to say it, it's about looks.
Michelle Bachmann has been on the Conservative "Babes" list for years, along with other Bimbettes such as Palin, Ann Coulter and Michele Malkin. I really think these people spend more time looking at them then listening to them. Since Clark seems to be a looker as well (Isn't this all a shame?) then maybe this race will be decided more on issues then the erection factor.

Republicans want desperately to end Social Security. It's about the last big New Deal program they haven't ruined or eliminated, and it's extremely popular with the people, which makes Republicans hate it all the more.
Author Thomas Frank, in his excellent book, The Wrecking Crew, credits Bush's 2005 cross-country campaign trying to sell the idea of privatizing Social Security, with sinking his poll ratings once and for all. And that was right after he had won re-election. It was so bad, Bush couldn't get more than limp, polite applause from audiences of handpicked Republicans.
But make no mistake, they will keep trying. The stakes are astronomical, and it would be the financial industry's final, complete takeover of this country.
@Erik, Bachmann also has had the national Christian right behind her feeding her trough.
Looks only get you so far then they fade. Sadly for these idiots, they happen to be in positions of power so that makes it worse. They just make it hard for women with all the stupidity they spout.
Gee Jess
Foxy and Self-Righteous what a perfect combination. ;)

Tim: The Far Right has been wanting to kill Social Security since the 1930s when FDR first established it. And now the extreme right has gone from the furthest margins and become the GOP mainstream.
Demeur: That's true, now that you mention it. We should be thinking more of Wall Street and not be so wrapped up in our own petty problems.
Dave: Yes, I too would gladly donate my retirement to Bachmann and the other Freedom Fighters who are keeping us safe.
Jess: Bachmann and several other Republicans have been saying exactly that. All they want to do is spend their time and our tax money investigating Obama instead of actually trying to accomplish something.
Erik: I haven't watched the video yet. If American voters are shallow enough to vote for candidates based on looks, then maybe somebody prettier than Bachmann will be what it takes to get her out of there.
SW: You're right on both counts. It's been political suicide for anyone who tries to take away SS; and the Powers That Be will keep trying to do exactly that, because the stakes are so high.
I worked 50 years for my Social Security...It's my money and to any pundits who scream that I should no longer be entitled to it because some Wall Street gamblers made bad bets: I'm not going to just lay down and die...nor are 50 million other retirees...we are going to make your life a living hell, our hair may be gray but you don't want to piss us off!!!
The basters on the right are worried about the donkey left hand steeling your ss money and giving it to people who did not contribute to the social security. The problem , you can only take out what is put in. Input must = output. When you have 47+ % never paying in but taking out. You do the math, there is nothing LEFT.
