Corporate/Investors' Greed Might End Up Saving the Earth from Eco-Armageddon

The world's wealthiest investors — motivated solely by their own financial interests — might be the wild card as the climate change battle heats up.  No, they didn't suddenly get all warm and fuzzy about a bunch of smelly animals.

According to a report from The Economist, environmental destruction caused by climate change “may wreak a whopping $4.2 TRILLION in havoc upon rich investors’ portfolios if they don’t act NOW.”

Also from the linked article:

“...even if today’s Masters of the Universe are wealthy enough to not starve, drown, or get Mad-Maxed like the rest of us...they may experience something even worse, God forbid: The inability to 'fulfill their fiduciary duties.'”

And:

“Investors currently face a stark choice. Either they will experience impairments to their holdings in fossil fuel companies should robust regulatory action on climate change take place, or they will face substantial losses across the entire portfolio of manageable assets should little mitigation be forthcoming.” 

Or as Gordon Gekko used to say:  [sometimes] “greed is good.”

House of Representatives Goes Down on Monsanto

On Thursday, July 23, 2015, Monsanto called a meeting of its Harem (formerly known as Congress),  whipped out its dick and commanded its prostitutes to suck on it.  275 congressmen quickly fell to their knees and cried out “How hard, Sir?!?”  “Shall I spit or swallow, Sir?!?”

The lewd scene described above has given birth to the twisted love child known as the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act, which hereby prevents state and local governments from requiring GMO foods to be labeled.  The bill was more accurately nicknamed “Deny Americans the Right to Know Act” aka the DARK Act.

Chickenhawks: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result

Speaking to an audience at the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Pittsburgh, President Obama said:

“Some of the same politicians and pundits that are so quick to reject the possibility of a diplomatic solution to Iran's nuclear program are the same folks who were so quick to go to war in Iraq and said it would take a few months.  We know the consequences of that choice, and what it cost us in blood and treasure. So I believe there's a smarter, more responsible way to protect our national security.”

And:

“Instead of rushing into another conflict, I believe that sending our sons and daughters into harm’s way must always be a last resort, and that before we put their lives on the line we should exhaust every alternative.”

But, I heard on Fox News that most members of ISIS are from Iran.  And Rush Limbaugh said the Benghazi terrorist attack was carried out by Iranians.  Now, if we stage a pre-emptive military strike against Iran, our soldiers will be greeted as liberators; they'll be showered with candy and ice cream by throngs of grateful Iranians...

Wait, it's not what you think! I didn't suddenly mutate into a Born Again Klanbagger. But you won't believe the irony here.

The Koch Brothers' Harem (formerly known as Congress) voted yesterday on a funding bill that would have basically crippled the Environmental Protection Agency and large portions of the Endangered Species Act. And as it turned out, our air, water and wildlife were saved by the Confederate Flag.

House Republicans pulled the controversial spending bill at the last minute because too many lawmakers wanted to preserve the Confederate flag in National Parks and cemeteries.

Friends of the Earth’s Lukas Ross said:

“Apparently the only thing that matters more to House Republican leadership than sacrificing American’s air and water is defending the legacy of slavery. We can only hope that this bill stays dead and buried.”

“We're not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term”

And that about covers it.  Whatever you think of Lindsey Graham, he nailed it when he told the Washington Post:

“The demographics race we're losing badly.  We're not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term.”

But on the plus side, they're still generating plenty of angry RICH white corporations.  Nothing else matters.
